Re: Gunfire during Dark Night Rises
Sounds like good taste to me, my "cheap" liquor of choice is Polish potato vodka, which runs in that price range.sjfcontrol wrote:Wow! You must drink the REALLY good stuff!!03Lightningrocks wrote:You folks don't understand how Liberals look at government entitlements. Like food cards and medicaid cards, they don't look at it as spending government money on non essential items. Of coarse the entitlement allowed them to spend money they normally would not have had available, on guns. The pile of money they received from the government was not the pile they actually took the money for guns out of. Kind of like when you see people use food cards for groceries and then spend twenty five dollars on cigarettes and 30 dollars on a bottle of cheap liquor. The food card money was not the pile they used to buy cigarettes and booze so it is OK. Get it now?teri wrote:Bingo!philip964 wrote:The shooter was getting a federal grant to study, so the government provided the money for him to buy the guns.

Re: Gunfire during Dark Night Rises
Long consideration and conversation with my CHL bride, and several CHL friends (and I have been amazed at the variety of answers) leads me to think I might have attempted to move closer and gone for a "mozambique" or triple tap (two to the body, one to the head) and feel that my usual carry .45ACP would have had some effect. A couple of people have reacted "Not me, I would have been out of threre!" and similar statements, which really shocked me in one case, and then there was the person who said he would have stood up and blazed away despite the crowd, he felt he probably would have been the only one standing besides the shooter.Steve133 wrote: . . . I agree with those who have made the point that, from a tactical perspective, this one was pretty much a Kobayashi Maru scenario. It would be pointless to try to speculate about what I would have done in that situation without knowing exactly what happened, but at least having a weapon with me wouldn't have hurt. Even if my plan was to just hit the dirt and crawl to an exit, having something to fight back with if the guy happened to stumble across me while I was doing so doesn't seem to have a downside. Since he was all kitted out in kevlar, it might not have made a difference in the outcome for me, but that gear doesn't make you magically invulnerable, and the loss of breath/bruises/possible cracked ribs might have at least slowed him down enough for a few more people to make it out. Kind of a depressing train of thought, but true.

On review, I think you may be right, but the way he said it sounded the way I understood it.sjfcontrol wrote:I think you misunderstood him. He was saying that some theaters may "not be good with it (carrying)" and "if not -- in texas they have two choices, one of the big signs, or notify each person..."jimlongley wrote:" . . . Clearly he doesn't understand the law.
it wasn't "if not in texas", it was, "if not (good with it), in texas..."

Re: Gunfire during Dark Night Rises
Something that I haven't seen in the thread, relating to if a CHL could do anything under those conditions:
Luby's. Remember part of the reason we have CHL in Texas to begin with; an active shooter calmly choosing victims while people who could have stopped him watched, and died, in terror.
Despite the small probabilities involved, there is always the chance that the miscreant would be close to, or even aiming at, a CHL holder. If it was me, I might not try a shot in a darkened theater across several rows and columns of seats, despite my bright flashlight and laser sight, but if I was in that row or a row or two away and close enough to be a target, then he would be close enough to be a target too.
