Don't think the French method would apply in this situation because the cop filed battery ( probably should have been assault) charges saying it was aimed specifically at him and then waived it directly toward him...and we know a taunting frenchman only threatens to do so in your "general direction" .

Actually, the penal code definition of the offense is: "creates, by chemical means, a noxious and unreasonable odor in a public place." Sounds like a conventional fart, regardless of how deadly, would not get your CHL yanked.
