Re: Opinion on gunsmith situation

Ohhh that sounds awful. I suppose the best case would be a refund and a new slide at their expense. I would dearly like to see photos if that can be worked out. In any event, I've had two XDM 9mm slides milled by Powder River Precision, which is the main information I wanted to convey. Each time the...

Re: POE video camera home system tips

Same here -- I've been running a household system with external POE cameras and a dedicated server for about year. Having the single cable run to each camera makes the installation efficient and clean. Everything has worked flawlessly 24/7 since the install. I picked up a relatively inexpensive POE ...

Sincere condolences on the loss of a cherished companion.

Maybe everyone can give their own an extra pat on the head or treat today. They all deserve it.

Re: CHL use in self defense against a dog?

Can't look it up and cite from on my phone, but there also a Texas law that explicitly states a dog or coyote can be killed for going after your animals/livestock. A pet dog qualifies as something you can protect. As far as discharging within city limits, the statute on NECESSITY applies as your af...

Re: conp tac mole skin

Ditto - I've used an MTAC without moleskin for about a year. I've found it to be extremely comfortable in that form, and it's proven to be a well-made and durable holster.

Re: UPDATE 2nd: 1-15-13

Regarding HB507, I'm wondering whether the sponsor had in mind the late-2011 shooting of two middle school students down here in the Valley, in Edinburg. The last I recall reading, the shooter was someone sighting in a rifle in a field adjacent to the school. He sent stray rounds onto a basketball c...

Re: Who has used Freedom Munitions ammo?

Just another data point on timing: I also placed an order on 1/3 and received a shipment notification this morning (1/14). I didn't receive any notifications regarding my order's status in the meantime, but wasn't overly concerned. Although it's my first order with the company, my training school ha...

Re: Sportsmans Outdoor Superstore

I recently purchased a pistol through them -- about two weeks ago -- and had no issues at all. They were responsive when I asked for confirmation that they'd received my FFL's information. The item then shipped promptly and arrived in good shape, on time. That's the only experience I can relate. The...

Re: As of today over 4000 rounds through my XDm 9

Thank you, this is good to hear. I, too, rely on that model for my EDC. For my part, I've put just over a thousand rounds through mine without a single hiccup. This has been, mostly, inexpensive 115gr ball ammunition for training, but also some good-quality JHP that I run through every few months to...

Re: Dry Fire Training

I've found a month-long "wall drill" routine very helpful, as set out here: http://pistol-training.com/archives/5185 . I have to credit John Daub, one of the instructors at KR Training, out of Bryan, for mentioning the routine in his blog. http://blog.hsoi.com/2012/08/11/a-month-of-dry-fir...

Agreed on the notion of attending an Appleseed at Cawthon Cartridge Club -- shot one there a few weeks ago, myself, and had a great time. It's located near Millican, east of College Station, and so not far from Houston at all...

Didn't see this mentioned, but the original post brought this to mind: TEXAS STATUTES AND CODE / HEALTH AND SAFETY CODE Title 10. HEALTH AND SAFETY OF ANIMALS Chapter 822. REGULATION OF ANIMALS Subchapter B. DOGS THAT ARE A DANGER TO ANIMALS Current through the 81st First Called Session § 822.013. D...

Community guns for criminal use

Some coverage here about something I'd not heard of -- "communal guns" for gang use (this out of New York). (Admittedly, probably an odd first post, but as a relatively new CHL holder I've been lurking for some time, reading, and learning a great deal, with much appreciation for the inform...
