IN his defense if someone charges you completley from behind thats kind of hard to stop. Your pure reaction time to do anything is the better part of a second by itself at the absolute best.
I don't disagree with that but had he noticed the attacker watching and following him, the attacker may not have had the opportunity to attack him from behind.

In case no one mentioned yet, this is a great reminder of the importance of staying aware. He failed to notice the attacker who followed him from the parking lot. Had he paid more attention, he might have been able to stop his attacker.

I have gone over similar scenarios, as I hope we all have, and if someone were to assault me, allowing them to get a hold of my pistol is not an option. I have come to the conclusion that shooting them is the logical response.

As for the idiot attacker in this case, not only did he assault an innocent law abiding citizen but for all he knew, the guy was a LEO. He didn't just "get it wrong". He assaulted a man he thought MIGHT be a threat and had no justification for doing so.
