Re: Campus Carry -- Where Are We Now?

Catching up and I think I've read everything.

My hope is they've already done a head count and decided that it's better to let the clock run out with a 2 point lead than throw into coverage for a big score. The risks are too great of creating another Dem superstar that will funnel money into the state progressives with a "Wendy Davis" moment. Turner is running for Houston Mayor. Don't you think he's like to be the Savior of the House? Unless they have a sure thing, It's better to let it fade away until next session when, hopefully, there won't be as many distractions.

Of course, the other possibility is a throwback to the original deal and the House wants to vote last to make it their victory? I don't know if that's even possible. But it's the one glimmer of hope.

EDIT: I see that SB11 is up now in the Upper House. We'll see what's what.

Sad that we aren't left with enough time or political capital to realistically do anything about CC, but at least we got the OC elephant out of the room. Hopefully this clears the decks next session so the grownups can get back to work.
Been saying that all night, too. Especially the latter part. Aside from Class C (A REALLY GOOD THING), the best part is Kory, CJ, et al... won't have a front-and-center bill to use as a soap box. Any permitless carry bills will die a fast, unsupported death in '17 (and '19 and any session where they lurk).

TXBO wrote:Here's an honest quote from an article in the Dallas Morning News from Tom Keefe, President, University of Dallas:

Saying student safety is a top priority, the leader of the private, Catholic university said “having guns indiscriminately spread on campus is going to make that job immeasurably harder.”

“The only people I want having guns are police and the bad guy,” he said. “I don’t want police to have to sort out who is John Wayne coming to the rescue.”
I would say it's pretty easy for cops to tell the bad guys from JW if SB11 fails. The bad guys will be gone scoring a bump from the money they just took or high-fiving each other for the "pretty little thing" they just molested. JW will be the angry ones pacing back and forth saying, "If I'd been armed." Also, easy to tell the victims too. They're the ones bleeding, shaking, crying, or just a 1000 mile stare losing its battle with reality.

If SB11 passes it will be equally easy to tell the bad guys from JW. By the time the cops get there, the bad guys will be bleeding or have run off. JW will be pacing with his/her gun reholstered ready to give their statement. Does he think cops have teleporters that can magically place a cop where and when needed?
