I've now moved back just to saying "No", and leaning it at that. I dont' even offer any excuses or stories of my own, just "No." If they ask again I and I am a good distance away I just walk away while keeping my eyes on them. If they are following me I turn and say in a VERY stern voice "STOP!" This seems to work. I usually will blade myself and take a more defensive stance when I do this. So far it has seemed to work. For thos of you in the Houston area (and probably other areas) try to take some of this information. When I was in the police academy they told us that one of the favorite weapons of the homeless was the ice pick. It was very cheap (around a buck) and could go right through police body armor. Just something to think about.
:iagree:
I too have adopted this approach. While it may be entertaining to ask them for money, it could also rile an unstable person and escalate the situation. Best just to say no and continue on your way, and if he/she follows, respond as Greg mentions.

It just didn't sound concealed to me if the guy looking in the window saw it...And it didn't sound like an accidental flash/print, the wording sounded intentional.

Question: Does being in your car exempt you from 46.035?

§ 46.035. UNLAWFUL CARRYING OF HANDGUN BY LICENSE
HOLDER. (a) A license holder commits an offense if the license
holder carries a handgun on or about the license holder's person
under the authority of Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government Code,
and intentionally fails to conceal the handgun.

I could be wrong, and you being a CHL instructor you're probably better informed then I am, but it's the way I read 46.035...Do I have it wrong??

I would be a little more careful about letting folks see my weapon. If I read the codes right, you were effectively breaking the law by intentionally failing to conceal your weapon.

You also stated you did not know what the guy's intentions were, so it would be hard to claim self defense for displaying the weapon.

Think about it this way, dispatcher receives a call from a guy who was threatened by a person sitting in their car with a handgun, and at a bank! Now lets further assume he gives your tag number, description of you, and an accurate description of the hand gun. You would have a lot of explaining to do

Keep it handy, but keep it concealed...
