I don’t see the brake discussion as relevant. But to answer your question, yes, I would have caught it before I got off my property, and yes the person that cut my brake line is guilty of committing a crime. I know of no laws, civil or criminal, that forbid a person from unloading a weapon in their house, or requires them to inform anyone they’ve done so. But I could be wrong, and there are folks on this forum who are very well versed in law, and I will bow to their insights on the subject.

Should she have unloaded his weapon…that’s between them. But checking the status of a weapon every time it’s been out of your control is prudent and would have alleviated the problem. You’ll notice the agent now checks his weapon every time.

The goal is to avoid getting dead, and it starts with taking responsibility for yourself. It wouldn’t mater to him if he got in a gun fight that day who unloaded his gun, he could still be dead…and to me dead right is a dubious honor and one to be avoided.

By the way, I had this lesson driven home to me once. I hadn’t chambered a round and when the time came to transition to pistol, nothing happened. Tap, rack, pull the trigger and it went boom, but the point was driven home to me very forcefully. Check your weapon before you holster it, the life you save may be your own.

The status of the weapon I’m depending on is my responsibility. That’s my stance and I’m sticking to it. You’ll draw the line where you want to draw it, and I respect that, so you’ll notice I never said you were wrong.

I guess I see it different. I figure I'm responsible for the status of my weapon. If you put it in your holster without checking it, then it's your fault if its unloaded.
