One of the articles I read said it was not the first time so I assumed they did it often but you are correct, I have no idea since I'm not a neighbor...

For some reason I am not seeing what you quoted in the article, but will go wiht that.

One thing that is puzzeling to me is I have never heard what type of weapon it was, but in one of the live interviews with a family member the comment was made that 'another pellet came through the window' and hit the girl. I am wondering if it was actually a pellet gun and not an actual 'firearm'?

i don't have time to cite the reference, but i believe one of the articles stated that the police found a couple of pellet guns and a 9mm. the other men were firing the pellet guns and manzano had fired the 9mm.

yeah, just because this neighborhood is south of I-30 and the words 'oak cliff' strike fear into almost every white person in dfw doesn't mean there's gunshots going off all the time.

article was updated, and wonkiness removed. the police spokesperson's statement now says:

Cristian Manzano, 20, was firing a weapon in a yard in the 400 block of West Yarmouth Street when one of the bullets went through a kitchen window next door, striking the child, police spokesman Lt. Max Geron said.

i'm now a bit bothered that the article makes it seem like guy with a history of drug and weapon related arrests doing a little target shooting in his backyard in a heavily populated area of oak cliff is fairly normal. maybe its just how i read it.

i know exactly where this is, and the yards are decent sized mostly due to the small house sizes, but nothing even close to target practice size. doesn't pass my sniff test (that he was 'just' target shooting), but either way the dude is in jail. i also think the phrase 'doing target practice' is a bit wonky, but it seems that there is generally little to no editing of online news stories on that site.
