Re: Post Office Law Suit to Repeal Carry Rule
It is not just the parking and going in the post office that is the problem. It is being on the post office property at all with your handgun, CHL or not. You are not supposed to go through the drive through. Park across the street and walk in or don't carry at all is the present state of things. If...

Re: Wait 'til next year
Your raise an excellent point. Plainly, it would be information many would wish to consider when selecting a candidate to support for any of those positions. I suppose that a broader brush would be required in any bill seeking to change the authorization from a discretionary one to one where the off...

Someone ought to compile a list of Sheriffs who don't sign for consideration next time they run for re-election.

Re: Another special session?
1. Doesn't make sense. 2. The work - his crusade against abortion? Actual legislation on how to run the place isn't that. He goes and makes speeches about abortion and the opposition. Where was the speech about gun rights the other day? 3. He refused to use his powers in the previous legislative se...

Re: Special Session -- 2013
I am sure that Gov Perry is in favor of open carry and all the other issues we see as critical to our cause. Don't forget that he only has a limited amount of political capital, and just like us he has to pick his fights carefully. Politics is all about trading, and while he shares our beliefs, he ...

Re: Special Session -- 2013
A fair weather friend. That sums it up nicely. No, it really doesn't. All these comments seem to be coming from frustration about a few of the bigger/more controversial bills and ignoring all the bills that have passed. The Governor has a machine to work within. If he could simply add and pass them...

Re: Special Session -- 2013
I do believe Perry has been, and is, supportive of the right to carry but I would like to know why he did not put campus carry in the Special Session. Considering how long we have been fighting for it, I would think he would have thrown a life preserver out for it in the form it had finally taken t...

Re: looks like NRA got it right
I have always hated the word decriminalize. So many people use decriminalize to mean make it a misdemeanor instead of a felony. My preferred wording is that this bill legalizes as it makes it more clear. And that is what this bill will do. It will be legal to own and carry a switchblade knife when ...

Re: Special Session -- 2013
This was the last chance for Perry and Dewhurst in my book. It is time to really get behind Greg Abbott for Governor and Jerry Patterson for Lt. Governor in 2014. You may be surprised to learn that Speaker Straus (R-San Antonio) is "A" rated by NRA-ILA. Rep. Joe Pickett (D-El Paso), Chair...

Re: Check out HB38 filed today
I suspect that what brought up the various amendments was increased security at courthouses where everyone was required to go through a metal detector and/or search. It is common knowledge than a number of judges used to carry something under their robes or in a holster out of sight under the bench....

Re: Special Session -- 2013
I find it interesting that various legislators are even allowed to file bills that are not on the call. I don't know that the practice is permissible or an authorized expenditure of state funds in doing so. The legislature is supposed to be working on what the Governor transmitted when he called the...

Re: Are HB 508 and SB 1907 the Main Sausage Left
I have checked the House website for the status of HBs 3218, 508, 972 and, of course, 700 which died in committee. It appears that all the rest have failed to achieve final action as well. Does anyone have information that indicates this not to be the case?
Thanks

Re: Dewhurst talks up special session, including gun bill(s)
So does this weekend's budget deal lessen the chance of a special session? Not based on some of the articles I've read. They still need to tackle district mapping among other things. The question in my mind is whether the Lt. Gov. and some Senators will ask the Gov. to include some of the bills tha...
