My mother in law (a real B@#$#) works for TSA (the perfect job for her). She got a big award for finding a handgun in carry on. They all acted as if she did some great work. In my opinion, it was just her job to begin with. If she hadn't found it, she should be fired...
Anyway, back to story.. We had a lovely Holiday meal last year as I explained that "everyone makes mistakes" (even you guys on here that think you are perfect). I understand it was illegal to carry on.. But sometimes punishment should be about the intent. Poor old guy lost his gun and went to jail. Is prosecuting him really worth our tax dollars? Losing gun and CHL is enough. Send him home.
I carry every day but have to leave in gym bag in car when I am at work or working out after work. It's there every day. I have to consciously remember to leave it at home when I drop car off for service. I always worry about forgetting. A little different scenario.. but no one is perfect.

Thank god this year I go to my parents for the holidays!
