I think I'll do a combo of freeze dried (yes I have a filter, UV purifier, and chlorine tabs) and regular MREs. If we're evacuating in a car (hurricane, etc.) we won't mind the weight. If we're packing it out after the Armaggedon then the freeze dried will be the best option.

Thanks for all the advice...if it really hits the fan I'm going to bar-b-q the cats first...tastes like chicken.

Forgive me if there is info out there already...couldn't find exactly what I was seeking.
I'm working on my bug out bag and plan to get enough MREs for about a week. (2 adults, 3 kids)
I'm looking for opinions about MRE brands that have good products. Compact, tasty, with a good shelf life, etc. What brands do you like and where is the best place to get them?
