Compared to a custom 1911 it's cheap. Compated to a Porsche 911 it's really cheap. However, compared to something comparable like concealed handgun licenses from other states, it's one of the more expensive ones. It's also very expensive compared to a State ID. If the cost of a Texas ID card violates the right to vote, the cost of a Texas CHL is a much bigger civil rights violation.Skiprr wrote:I'm not saying licenses in other states aren't cheaper...or that Texas fees couldn't/shouldn't be reduced. I'm just saying I don't think Texas fees are "crazy high." For example, if you shoot .45 ACP and buy commercial ammo, a $70 renewal equates to around 200 rounds of range FMJ. That's one morning at the range versus a 5-year license.Jumping Frog wrote:I paid $20 for my 5-year PA non-resident license.Skiprr wrote:...crazy high fees?Hoosier Daddy wrote:The crazy high fees are why I didn't get Texas plastic.
It's $140 for five years; $70 for renewals. That's 28 bucks a year; 14 a year for renewals.
My UT non-resident renewals are $15 for five years.
Just sayin' . . . .
Just doesn't seem all that unaffordable to me...
