You are behind by a step or two. Person walks in a store with a long gun & the reaction will be alarm - where that person is closely watched from a state of readiness. And that's why all of this is so troubling. The OC crowd keeps insisting that the sight of an openly carried weapon should become the norm. It won't. But they refuse to accept that.MeMelYup wrote:I think a lot of the reaction is on how the individual is handling the "weapon." If the person walked in giving the impression that it is part of their clothing I would be okay. If the person was acting nervous I would be a little alarmed and watch them. If the person acted very nervous and twitchy I would be highly alarmed and very watchful of them. If the person couldn't keep a hand off the gun I would be extremely alarmed and call 911 or leave.RPBrown wrote:I like the picture of the 2 guys sitting with the rifle barrels digging int the concrete, ground or whatever is under the barrel. Not a good way to treat a weapon.
Now, on the note of the thread, my wife and daughter own a business and run it together. They have a sign in the front window that says CHL's welcome here. I had an interesting conversation with both of them after seeing the Starbucks thread and asked what they would do. Their answer was if someone walked into their shop with a weapon displayed, they would probably be looking down the barrel of at least one if not two XD's. Interesting point. How would they know that this person was not there to rob them? Yes he can legally carry a rifle openly, BUT, that doesn't eliminate the fact that the girls would, in their minds, be protecting themselves.
These people that are doing this before something like this happens and someone gets hurt or gets dead.

Yes, it's private property. But that private property is open to the public. But you knew that to be my meaning. So consider the hair split and the nit picked.Cedar Park Dad wrote:Technicially its not in public, its a private business.TexasCajun wrote:So if the generally prevailing opinion on this thread with this crowd is: seeing an openly carried long gun in public would cause alarm, imagine what the uninformed must think about it.....

Re: If I owned a retail store...
It's generally best policy for a business to remain apolitical. The exception being businesses that have a natural fit with a particular political leaning (I.e. local gun shop would be naturally associated with pro 2A).
I would hope that all factions within the pro 2A umbrella will take this opportunity to reevaluate their respective strategies.
