If I did see a problem with it, I wouldn't have filed out the complaint. Just part of the process. Besides, anyone wanting the information has to go through a prices before they hand it over.jason812 wrote:Does anybody else see a problem with filling a complaint and then your information being available for the public to find out about it?

Re: Houston Livestock Show/Rodeo to Prohibit OC
Looks like they've now included the on-air report at the link that I posted earlier.
Also as a point of clarification, when I spoke to the reporter, my comments referenced licensed carry, not open carry.

Re: Houston Livestock Show/Rodeo to Prohibit OC
Here's the link to the published story. I didn't have a chance to listen for the on-air report yesterday afternoon & couldn't find any recording archives for news articles.
https://www.houstonpublicmedia.org/arti ... s-gun-ban/
As I figured, a 20min conversation nets a 10 second soundbite or couple of statements. The reporter did challenge my position by stating that since school students participate in the livestock show, the rodeo would be considered an educational event. I argued that since the rodeo is the sponsor of the event & not the individual schools or school groups, that rationale doesn't wash - or at the very least would require an opinion from the OAG before a prohibition could be enacted.
Then he asked me about something that someone from a 3-letter organization that we've found it necessary to distance ourselves from & not name suggested as a compromise: secured lock-boxes at the gate where carriers could store their firearms. My response was that that the law is clear - the county cannot prohibit licensed handgun carry at its facilities except under certain circumstances, so even with lock boxes (which may not be that secure given the temporary nature of the rodeo facilities) the county would still be allowing HLSR to violate the law.
On a side note, I'd like to give a shout out to the Organization that Creates Trouble for all of their "help" regarding these matters.

Just got done with the interview. It will be aired later today & posted on the website tomorrow morning. It went ok as a conversation. I'll wait until I can listen to the report before I say any more.

Re: Houston Livestock Show/Rodeo to Prohibit OC
Thanks for that. I did read up on the reporter's articles. He works for one of the local public radio stations, so liberal is a given. But his earlier article on 3/1 about the rodeo's decision wasn't too bad.

Re: Houston Livestock Show/Rodeo to Prohibit OC
Just listened to a voicemail from a missed call. A reporter from KUHF public radio wants to speak to me regarding my HLSR complaint with the AG's office. Said he filed an open records request and got my name & number.
Not sure if I should respond. What says y'all?

Then that would provide the basis for further changes. If an entity deliberately tries to ignore or circumvent the law, even the good ol boys are going to eventually get slapped upside the head.anygunanywhere wrote:A win.....for next year? You just made my point. The HLSR will have a case of amnesia next year.
I predict right now that nothing happens and the rodeo powers that be do the exact same thing next year and ignore the law.

Funny thing is I don't even like the rodeo & will only go if we get free tickets. I think this one just hit me for some reason.

Re: Houston Livestock Show/Rodeo to Prohibit OC
At this point everything is a win. If they take the signs down it's a win - not only for whatever remains of this year's event but for future events. If they don't take the signs down, it's still a win because we can go to the legislature next session with improvements to the law.anygunanywhere wrote:From the looks of things the resolution will be reached just in time to be able to carry after the rodeo is over. The letter was sent from Zindia Thomas, Assistant Attorney General in the Administrative Law Division.
The system appears to be working, at least so far. Please keep us informed.

I'm planning on sending an email to the bill author & sponsors later this week inquiring about the AG's delay.

Re: Houston Livestock Show/Rodeo to Prohibit OC
I've submitted my complaint to the AG's office this morning - for whatever that'll be worth. If my previous experience is any indicator, I should be getting a follow-up email from an investigator later today or tomorrow and that will probably be the end of it.
I also filled out the form on TFC website https://www.texasfirearmscoalition.com/ ... -06-upload

Re: Houston Livestock Show/Rodeo to Prohibit OC
I'm waiting the three business days required by statute before filling my complaint with the AG's office. That will put my due date on Wed for filling with the AG.canvasbck wrote:Anything on this so far?
I've heard (but not confirmed) that 30.06 & 30.07 signs have been installed on the ticket booths. I'll see if I can get hard proof before Wed.

If not the managing agency, specifically who should the complaint go to? County Judge Ed Emmett? County Attorney? County Commissioners?Charles L. Cotton wrote:No, any person or LTC can serve the notice and file the complaint with the AG. Service the notice on Harris County, not some subdivision thereof.canvasbck wrote:Does it have to be a Harris County resident? I would be happy to file this complaint. As a lifetime HLSR member and a committee captain, I am appalled at their new stance on concealed carry.Charles L. Cotton wrote:Someone needs to file a complaint with Harris County now. The Rodeo has already made a public statement banning open and concealed carry and that triggers SB273's provisions. The County will have three days to "cure" this notice. Since the notice was oral rather than a sign, the retraction must also be oral. Three days after filing the notice with Harris County, file a complaint with the AG. The AG must give fifteen days to cure and, again, the only cure will be oral retraction. Since the rodeo is more than 15 days away, and lasts more than 15 days to boot, the $1,500 per day per sign fine will attach.
