Re: Mossberg 500 Upgrade project: FINISHED!!
Thanks for the input! Much appreciated. Being left handed, I just have to get used to the fact that my whole life is pretty much backwards.

Re: Mossberg 500 Upgrade project: FINISHED!!
Yup, I read up on that. I don't see myself ever needing to use it for anything that far. It's primarily just for home defense. I decided I'd rather have an uninterrupted field of view since it would most likely be close quarters use only.

Re: Mossberg 500 Upgrade project!!
So the Bushnell red dot I ordered is out of stock and they said 2 months. That was the one piece I was feeling iffy about since it was the most expensive so i just cancelled it and ordered a cheaper one. This is just a plain open red dot. Not sure what you'd call it compared to the "scope" kind... tubeless?
Anyway this one got good reviews from people using them on my exact shotty and it was MUCH cheaper. so I figured I'd give it a go.

Re: Mossberg 500 Upgrade project!!
It's used as a hand positioning device. Helps guide your hand to the correct spot every time for better indexing, helps give better lateral control and aids in pumping the shotgun. You put the thumbstop in the webbing between your thumb and fingers and it helps hold the gun steady.
Oh, and I'm left-handed if the picture was confusing you on how it works.

Re: Mossberg 500 Upgrade project!!
awesome! How do you like your stock? Is that the blackhawk recoil reducing one? I've heard mixed reviews about the pros and cons. I've heard that it does help absorb the kick, saving your shoulder but that it can also cause your aim to drop or change, making it hard for follow-ups. Just curious what you think about it.chuckybrown wrote:"Tacticool".
.....I own one too, so I'm not dissin' 'ya.....
I put my light in a different spot so the pressure switch would be on the grip.

Re: Mossberg 500 Upgrade project!!
Red dot. I did quite a bit of research and read really good reviews about the Bushnell TRS-25. From what I've read it's one of the best in the under $100 range. Plus, the brightness goes to ELEVEN!The Annoyed Man wrote:Are you going to go for a red-dot sight, or something like a ghost-ring iron sight with a post front?

I think I paid $80 shipped.

Re: Mossberg 500 Upgrade project!!
it's really not bad at all, actually. the flashlight is probably the heaviest, but everything is pretty evenly distributed. plus the AFG and thumb stop, as well as a sling(when i get one) will all help with stability.jayinsat wrote:What about the Blackhawk two-point sling that holds 15 shotshells? I put it on mine. All that must really add to the weight.

Re: Mossberg 500 Upgrade project!!
the rails are to mount the AFG and thumb stop to the forend. The side saddle and red dot site are still shipping. and Yeah I need to get a sling. I changed out the standard blank adaptor with the included sling adaptor that came with the ATI stock. I'm still researching to decide how I want to mount it. Definitely a 2 point, but I don't know if I want to use the swivel on the barrel screw or attach a QD system to the other side rail oposite the flashlight.
