I seriously doubt it, not in the case of confiscating a gun or other oppression of CHL holders. I would like it if this were not the case. However if you set fire to a flag or mount a protest blocking traffic without a permit and get arrested then they will jump all over it.
Actually, mr.72, the TEXAS ACLU is not as rabidly anti-gun as some of the national and/or East/West Coasters are. In the 2007 legislative session, the TEXAS ACLU actually spoke in favor of one (or more) of the bills favored by TSRA. I believe it was either the Motorist Protection Act or the castle doctrine legislation. I was present in the committee room during a public hearing when they spoke. Imagine my suprise when they began to speak IN FAVOR of the legislation and later actually helped craft some of the wording. Like you, my previous impression was ACLU=ACLU. Such is actually not the case...at least in this instance. I am not sure if I would want one to marry one of my daughters, but I'll give credit where credit is due.

I'll let others recall which of the bills this was. I have both slept and taken medication since that time and frankly don't recall. Hey! maybe I could be a politician...or a piano player in a wh... uh...bordello. Maybe the latter so as not to embarass my Dad.
