Re: Gun Bill Saturday - May 4th
It's kind of off topic but relates. I have to give my Rep, Stephanie Klick kudos for her hard work. And, she even managed to keep updating her facebook with what's going on. She is the only politician outside of my local city, that actually took the time to knock on my door and ask for a vote and talk with me and TBM for about 15-20 minutes.

Re: Gun Bill Saturday - May 4th
I think 972 is a step in the right direction albeit a little weaker than I had hoped. But hey, two steps forward and one step back.

I just started watching.
465, 508, and 698 passed from what I watched so far.
HB 698 Relating to certain procedures for submitting legible and classifiable fingerprints with an application for a license to carry a concealed handgun.
HB 508 Relating to certain offenses relating to carrying concealed handguns on property owned or leased by a governmental entity; providing a civil penalty.
Yes on the above, I was asking about 465.

I can't point to a link or anything, however my story was loosely based on what happened to a friend personally known to me. He was doing nothing illegal and was taken into custody for an alleged display violation . Lucky for him, he is married to an attorney who is also a CHL holder. I am good friends with an LEO who says he disarms anybody with a weapon, including all CHL holders. I've had many arguments with him about it, but he and most of his partners are adamant, their personal safety is tops. He's a Big Govt. guy that thinks he's a conservative. I've been pulled over by a trooper who was professional and knew I was armed. When I handed him my DL and CHL, he asked, and I told him the truth. He went to his car, did whatever he needed and when he returned, I signed the paper and he left. The kicker? My friend the LEO was with me during that stop. He was shocked, and amazed the trooper didn't disarm me. The subject of this thread is the Gun Bills up for debate this Saturday, while I respect and admire Mr. Cotton and thank him for this forum, in my opinion, this session is not a good one for the expansion of our gun rights. The incremental approach isn't working. We need a bold, but polite strategy for our cause. Mr. Cotton says he's waited 8 years to introduce HB3218 and it's probably dead this session, but maybe in two years ... If Texas turns sky blue do you think the democrats will wait 8 or 10 years to eliminate some of our gun rights?
I liken it to the same way Libs are slowly eating away at our constitutional rights or to the meaning of Jumping Frogs username. Ever heard the analogy of a frog in the pan?

Re: Gun Bill Saturday - May 4th
I sent off my letters, phone calls and faxes. Here's an email that I got back:
Thank you for contacting my office to voice your concerns over the 2nd Amendment and gun control. I appreciate that you took the time to share your thoughts with me on this important issue.
As a proud gun owner, I share your concerns that our 2nd Amendment rights need to be protected. I believe that gun ownership is a fundamental right in this country and support citizens in their effort to properly defend themselves.
I would like to inform you that I am a joint author of House Bill 1076, the Firearms Protection Act as well as House Bill 972, relating to campus carry. There are also a handful of other bills that look to expand the rights of lawful gun owners and I plan to support many of these measures too.
Again, thank you for your sharing your concerns. If I can ever be of assistance to you in the future, please do not hesitate to contact my office.
Sincerely,
Stephanie Klick
Texas State Representative
House District 91

Re: Gun Bill Saturday - May 4th
I'm sure most poepole don;t just copy and paste their emails but just in case, there is a slight error in Chas original post......
I'm guessing he meant to move 801 on the oppose line only. It's just listed in two places and I'd hate for someone to send their support for 801.
Charles L. Cotton wrote: HB801 - Requires Hunter Education Courses to include warnings about rounds leaving the property; also requires the posting of "School Nearby" signs. - OPPOSE.
Please call and/or fax your Representative and ask them to support HB 47, 48, 508, 698, 801, 972,
