There are quite a few issues with the grip safety in this thread, along with other reasons, this is why I sold my XD and went with Glocks.
That said, there are plenty of happy XD owners

Some police forces use XD's - ok not real combatkiverse wrote:Whats a combat handgun? Where are XDs being used in Combat?SpringerFan wrote:As my name would indicate, I am a huge fan of Springfield Armory pistols. The XD and XDM lines are excellent combat handguns. I have owned 5 and still own 2. I only carry a Glock 36 because the XD line does not come in a single stack variant. Of all the handguns I have ever owned, my XDM40 is my favorite to shoot. Shoot one for yourself and I think you will agree. Check out the XDTALK.com forum. Great guys over there who will answer any and all XD related questions. I am SpringerFan there also.
P.S. - Rumor has it that the XDM45 will be released in the next couple months.
a Beretta 92 at least in the US
Glocks are used widely http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glock_pistol" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I have owned the XD40, very nice to shoot, but there are some design issues when it comes to striping the weapon and reassembly, also parts availability, i think only from the factory and its a pain to completely strip. some part can be put in wrong and will have to be drilled out or beat out

I actually said not a modern fighting gunsurprise_i'm_armed wrote:Bill said :
A 1911 is not a fighting gun. It was at one time.
Can I assume that you say this due to the 7 + 1 or 8 +1 round capacity of
a 1911, compared to your higher capacity Glock?
.45's make the biggest holes, so it wouldn't seem to be caliber-related.
SIA
yes I would rather have 18 rounds of +p 124g than 8 or 9 45s
I can field strip in 2 sec
I have less weight and can carry more ammo
I do not rust
I don't care much about cleaning
easy to detail strip and repair, fewer parts
more reliable and less finicky
no grip or hammer saftey

just look at how my little smilie keeps firing his Glock

Re: glock vs xd-m
I am not a XD basher
had one and loved it but after training at many schools and many rounds I wanted to keep my fighting guns all glocks, I have parts, extra barrels, I can strip it in a couple of minutes fix it if need be and back we go, share parts between guns as well.
I also have a pre 80 1911 Norinco, I love the 1911's, I even have a 20 or 30 round mag. Make big hole, but its not a modern fighting gun, yes it was at one time.
I have a Kahr MK9, great little gun, but that is what it is, little, 7 rounds is not my idea of protection 17+1 is. I do carry when certain occasions arise and as BUG
In fact when I visit guns shows I have to resist and think about the purpose of the trip, otherwise I would bring home way to many pistol's

Re: glock vs xd-m
I have mixed feeling about the Gen 4,
1. Its new
2. Barrel assembly not interchangeable with older versions, uses dual recoil springs
3. Its new
I am off topic

but, not on grip safety,
I have had both but I am really sold on Glocks, I will also tell you that I do not want a grip safety, do you think you will always have a good grip? Yes, generally you will if you practice at an indoor range or in some static position just poking holes, but that's not reality. Maybe you were cqb and had to use you fist to punch your way out, knuckles are busted so hand strength is diminished
