Worn out towels migrate to the shop and are used for shop, towels, then rags. To cover my gun in the vehicle I don't use a towel, but a red shop rag/towel. But I have bought, leased, rented red cotton shop rags/towels for 45 plus years. I always have a clean one in the seat and in the driver's side pocket and use them to drape over my EDC when I enter the truck and place it between the seats handy to my right hand. Even when we carry an additional truck gun, it is covered with the humble red shop rag.

The funny thing is my wife will go get new shop rags out of the machine shop to carry in her truck for the same purpose. If they get dirty, just put them in the laundry with the other shop towels. Don't wash them with white undies--I KNOW.
