It was launched just as WW2 was coming to a close. Initial promotion highlighted that it was 100% American made using American grown ingredients. Most 40s and 50s housewives could be depended on to be patriotic in their shopping choices. And it smells good, gardenias and jasmine, win/win.

Unfortunately that original Joy formulation is no longer available to due the unavailability of some of the materials.
Yeah, the whole EU hyper-nanny state allergens brouhaha is pathetic. Jean Patou, post Proctor & Gamble, has made great strides in reviving "Joy".
IFRA and EU regulations forcing the reformulation of Patou, Chanel, Dior and Yves Saint Laurent classic scents will create more problems for Brussels than they know!

My Mom wore "Joy" by Jean Patou, I still gift the ladies in my life with this scent.
The smell of alkali on the breeze off of a dry lake bed.
The aromatic bouquet of sage, the leaves crushed as you pushed your horse through the brush and scrub.
Cow grilling on a mesquite fire.
