Funny how something like this can be taken out of context.Liberty wrote:I hope you are right, but he is a Democrat and has friends within the anti organization Mayors Against Illegal Guns Coalition, which was started by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Boston Mayor Thomas Mennino.
At a summit meeting with this group one of the leaders, Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy, was interviewed and asked about Obama bin Ladens presidential chances. I found his response disconcertingWe are to be judged by those whom we associateHealy chose not muse about Obama's chances to win over Hudson County, or specifically Jersey City, voters in the presidential election.
"It would just be way too early to speculate on any of the candidates for president," said Healy. "He is certainly charismatic and he is a fresh face, so to speak, and I think he would be a great spokesman for our causes in Jersey City." But, he added, "So would Senator Clinton, John Edwards or [New Mexico Gov.] Bill Richardson."
For the record - Gov Richardson is Pro-Gun. He is NOT part of any anti-firearms groups. I have worked with him since his election and he has supported every piece of firearms legislation we have introduced, gotten passed - the bulk of it passed only with his ramming some of it down legislator throats - then he has signed everything we have in the Statutes now. To imply anything else is a dis-service to someone that has done much for concealed carry. Gov Richardson holds NM CHL #1.
If you will re-read the quote you find disconcerting, you will see that Healy says those mentioned would be great spokesman for their causes. It does not say they are spokesman and it does not say they are even friendly to their causes. I would also point out that there is nothing to even begin to indicate he associates with those that speak his name. Saying someone would be good to have on your side is a far cry from actually having that person on your side.
I appreciate your skepticism of the firearms positions of a Democrat - especially a Clinton Administration Democrat. However, for all he may otherwise be - he is absolutely in our corner with our 2nd Amendment freedoms.
Hope you have a great day.
