My opinion - if CC passes first, any 560 type bill will no longer be achievable.
The reasoning is that there will be no real support behind the bill anymore, and the argument will be that there is no reason that license holders should be able to carry where regular law abiding citizens without a license can't.

Re: HB 560 - Holy Grail?
I wonder when that clause was added to the Texas Constitution - something tells me it was not in there originally... and whoever added it was a liar (it's always about control, not crime).CleverNickname wrote:HJR (whatever) - The Every Child Should Have a Cute Puppy or Kitten Act - modifies Article 1, Section 23 of the Texas Constitution to remove the phrase "but the Legislature shall have power, by law, to regulate the wearing of arms, with a view to prevent crime.”

Re: HB 560 - Holy Grail?
OCT and Texas Carry definitely bring more in person support than I have seen for a gun bill in a long, long time. Definitely doesn't hurt (as long as it's peaceful).

Re: HB 560 - Holy Grail?
What bills still have a good chance to pass and need our support Charles?Charles L. Cotton wrote:I would love to say so much more folks, but this is a public forum and I simply cannot expound on the situation. We need to fight hard for some very important gun bills we have filed. Clarifying "school activity grounds," exempting volunteer church security teams from the Occupations Code, dramatically lowering the LTC fee and several more improvements deserve our full support. We need to be strong in our opposition to anti-gun bills. We cannot let our anger at the death of HB560 yet again destroy our impact on Texas gun laws overall.
I will say this much. I'm a good soldier, but I cannot control everything, everyone or every organization. Immediately after this session is over, I will announce a new effort. I've outlined a comprehensive bill dealing with the carrying of handguns with and without a license in terms of license requirements, eligibility, off-limits areas, self-defense and more. When time permits, I will draft this comprehensive bill and when the session is over, I will launch this entirely new program. If we have a massive response it will be successful, otherwise, it will fail. It's that simple. Unfortunately, among the gun community as everywhere else in life, less than 10% of a group carry the load for everyone else. Only time will tell how many Texas gun owners are serious about sweeping changes to our gun laws.
Chas.
And with the substitutes of 375/1911, other than carry w/in 1,000 ft of a school, NICS checks, and reciprocity, would there be any other advantages to having an LTC?

Re: HB 560 - Holy Grail?
Does this bill have any real support in the legislature or any real chance of passage? I keep encouraging my students to write their reps in support but haven't heard anything about the bill other than being filled.

HB308 was a piece of the pie. HB560 is the whole enchilada (as far as carry locations go).Papa_Tiger wrote:HB 560 (TX-85) is significantly more expansive than HB 308 (TX-84) was.Scott Farkus wrote:Russell wrote:On a different note, I hope we invest about 90% of our lobbying efforts towards this bill. I am personally way more interested in seeing this pass than constitutional carry this session.![]()
I'm also far more interested in this than eliminating the LTC fees. I'll take both (and CC) of course, but hope we don't use all our chips on the others.
Is HB 560 going to be this session's HB 308, or will last session's HB 308 also be filed? Is one better than the other, or are they similar enough that it doesn't matter?

I don't want to advertise (nor do I have any skin in the game even if I did), but you can check the bottom of the website for who the company is if you're interested.

Is that just [pre-paid legal] or pretty much all of them?mr1337 wrote:That's correct. They claim to only render legal aid when you use a weapon in lawful self-defense. That doesn't include simply carrying at a location and getting arrested for it. They could take up the case to further 2A rights, but they are not obligated to by contract.locke_n_load wrote:So [pre-paid legal] or other prepaid services would not help if I was arrested for legally carrying my handgun (but didn't need to draw) by a cop who is not knowledgeable of the law?Pawpaw wrote:That won't do any good. They only help if you use your gun, whether you fire it or not. Just carrying does not qualify as "using".locke_n_load wrote:As long as I can OC up to door I'm cool with that (as is currently legal).
I prefer to OC due to the ease of carry (have to arm/disarm a lot), and I have a 2 year old. Would like to keep it in OWB holster when dropping off (may include getting out to give a hug) at grade school.
I should probably invest in [prepaid legal] or something similar once she gets to grade school...

Re: HB 560 - Holy Grail?
So with passage, you could conceal or open carry at primary/grade schools correct, just no OC at colleges? Don't think I would OC in a grade school (maybe dropoff at door), but it would be nice to know that it's not a crime.

Chas.
Did you get a chance to produce the TFC Short-Shot on HB560?
Looking forward to listening to it!
Thanks!
