A NICS check is nothing like the background checks for the CHL. IIRC, every place you've lived or worked in requires a check in person from a field officer. If any of those locations do not have a DPS office, then an officer must be sent to that county to run the checks with the county sheriff's office. What's stupid is my NICS check goes through instantly with a "proceed" every time. We've bought about 14 guns in the last few months and every last one goes through instantly. Doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason either - I've seen others that take 7 months + and some get theirs in 60 days.
