Re: Urgent: XDs recall...
I'm happy with mine. The take-up is shorter but the reset is longer. I didn't have the gritty trigger that others have complained about but I did clean mine before I shot it.

I meant their aftermarket extended grip safety lever.Excaliber wrote:On their website they specified that the gun must be post recall for the kit to work properly.RogueUSMC wrote:I don't think they have got a post-recall grip safety though...alot of folks are waiting for it. But, post recall, the grip safety doesn't have to be pressed NEAR as far to function.

Re: Urgent: XDs recall...
I am debating on buying a friend's 9mm XDS this week...if I do, you are welcome to hold it while yours is gone. It hasn't had the recall performed yet but it can wait until yours gets back. You are just down the road from me looks like. I have my XDS .45 back already.

Re: Urgent: XDs recall...
Just stopped at the range and spent 50 rnds on mine just to make sure it goes bang when you squeeze the trigger before I put it back in the holster...
I think the trigger is a little heavier but not by much...and it might be my imagination, but I think the take-up is shorter. I don't detect any increase in tension just before it breaks...it just seemes to have steady tension, then it breaks nice and clean.
I may keep wearing the 1911 for a while during winter (I just enjoy shooting it more). I bought the XDS for carry because of it's size but realize once I started carrying it that I could probably conceal alot more gun than I thought I could. This was confirmed when I borrowed a basic High Standard 1911 from a friend while my XDS was gone and I started carrying it. I like the gun and may just buy it from him. He was looking at selling it when I borrowed it.
Anyway, I am not really upset about anything to do with the recall other than the fact that they told me to send it, then told me after they had it in their posession that they didn't have a fix ready yet. The rest of the process I can understand. Overall, I am just happy to have my gun back.

Re: Urgent: XDs recall...
Mine is on the way back...expected on Tuesday.
When they first said how it was shipping back they said, "an adult has to sign for it." I figured cool, my daughter will be home, she's an adult. Well, according to Fedex, 18 isn't an adult.
So I called them and asked if I could have that tracking number held at the Fedex facility. They told me they would have to try to deliver it. I told them that I could tell them right now nobody they will allow sign for it will be there. They said that once it shows in tracking that they tried to deliver it, THEN I could call the 800 number and ask them to hold it and I could come pick itup. Makes no sense...

Re: Urgent: XDs recall...
Cocked and locked would be a single action trigger pull...if your single action trigger pull on a double action pistol is heavier than ANY striker fired pistol, you need serious work on your trigger. If he is saying it is lighter than most double action trigger pulls, he would probably be right. The Annoyed Man wrote:Yeah, I thought that "Everyone's" description was a little broad. When I first started carrying with my CHL, I carried a cocked and locked Sig 1911. Hard to imagine a striker trigger getting lighter and crisper than that.Cedar Park Dad wrote:Interestingly, I've never heard that as a complaint of DAO guns before. Learn something new every dayAs a side note, because so many discussion board “experts” skip over this. a heavier trigger pull isn’t the worst thing when talking about striker fired guns. Everyone’s biggest complaint on striker guns is that the trigger is too light, when compared to a double action/single action semi-automatic or a double action revolver.

I'd send it in myself...my dealer said that customers will probably take priority over dealers in regards to turn-around...

Re: Urgent: XDs recall...
I have another gun...a nice one...but the challenge is finding something to carry it in.
It's a S&W Model 60-4 3"...I can find holsters all day long for 2" J-frames but holsters for a 3" are alot slimmer pickins.

Re: Urgent: XDs recall...
I saw that guy's thread when he first started it...Excaliber wrote:Anyone thinking about not sending it back may want to read this XDTalk Forum post and the ones that follow before making a final decision.
I think it resulted from not cleaning the shipping grease from the striker well (in his defense, it wasn't in the manual to do this). The grease in the striker well collects dust and stuff...once it gets gunked up, the striker doesn't always fall back into the safe position resulting in the striker being in the position to hit the firing pin when the slide goes back into battery. Now, I am not a gunsmith but I do all the research I can on new things (especially guns) that I get...I learn everything I can about them.
The XDS needs a thorough cleaning (past the field strip cleaning suggested in the manual) prior to it having very many rounds thrown through it.
I'm not saying the guy did anything wrong and it is commendable that SA is doing what they can to make it right.
I AM going to send my pistol back to them for service but, in my mind, this particular condition is not an issue because of the maintenance I have done to mine. Then again, I am not an armorer and they have more experience with modern arms than I have AND they designed the dad-blamed thing...lol. The new grip safety lever has an additional roll pin in it suggesting addition of more moving parts. I am curious to see what all they changed...
