"Events:
Since time is running short, an author of a controversial gun bill says Texas lawmakers are going to try and combine both “open carry” (CHL holders can holster in public) and “campus carry” (allows firearms in college classrooms) into one omnibus gun bill by Rep. Larry Phillips, R-Sherman (HB 910). At 9:30 AM a group of opponents will gather in the Capitol rotunda to draw attention and try and stop the 2nd amendment bills. The Senate has passed both “open carry” and “campus carry”. The House has passed “open carry”. This week committees will likely take up the other chamber’s bills to move the process along."

Re: Campus Carry revived, attached to open carry
After thinking about this amendment I don't have a problem with it being left out. I think an officer ought to be able to ask. Once the new wears off of OC CHL holders will likely be left alone most of the time. If it's a problem, if your routinely being stopped when in public, then the legislature can deal with it in two years.locke_n_load wrote:Terry Holcomb of Texas Carry stated on facebook today that 910 is moving forward this week, but they are removing the amendment that prohibited officers from asking for ID without probable cause.

I'd like to be a fly on the wall. If there is any dealing going on that begs the question as to what the two negotiators expect to get in return.v7a wrote:Lawmaker jumped the gun on campus carry deal claims"I don't know of any deal. He's premature in talking about that. I will confirm that was one scenario that was discussed," Estes told the Chronicle. "The main scenario is to get the Senate bills moving. How long they been sitting over there? Two months?"

Re: Campus Carry revived, attached to open carry
She may be through with college if she doesn't get into the phd program she wants. Most of the articles I read from those opposing campus carry think it's all about defense against some "active shooter" who decides to shoot up a classroom. Actually, a lot of pro campus carry gravitate to the same argument. What seems lost on them are the night students, esp, walking from class out to the parking lots. Every aggravated robber and sex offender knows the law abiding students wouldn't be packing to their cars/dorms. Seems a no brainer to me, campus carry does for the university system what CHL did for the general public, reduce crime by keeping the bad guys guessing who might be carrying.C-dub wrote:I know what you mean, but respectfully, if it affects my daughter it affects me personally.Tracker wrote:If OC were to die they wasted a lot of pro-gun political capital... so I believe we'll get some form of OC. When it comes to sex offenders A&M wasn't so bad for her http://www.city-data.com/so/so-College- ... Texas.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
but you can't say the same for Tech grad ed. That is another story http://www.city-data.com/so/so-Lubbock-Texas.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

If OC were to die they wasted a lot of pro-gun political capital... so I believe we'll get some form of OC. I'm hoping this maneuver works. Campus carry doesn't affect me, personally, but it affects my daughter and friends who work at a university.
