That will do it.. He graduated law school, got a real job, saw his tax deductions and immediately turned back into a conservative.

Re: Carry at holiday parties
Hey I did say I lived in Austin. Hippies still exist here...Again with the absurd. Drugs are illegal, unless it is prescription and I won't ask permission to take my legally prescribed drugs into the home. Porn? Obamacare brochures? LOL...if I had that on me, I wouldn't tell them about it. Unless they were hippies. But again, if they said to me, don't bring those items into my house, I would respect it.

Re: Carry at holiday parties
Wiener dogs are so short for just such a contingency. You have to bend down to reach them and then blamo, its all over for you...Then I shoot the weiner dog.
Very fair.J/K... I would respect the sign and do as thy ask me to do. If they directly say to me that they prefer not to have firearms in their house, I have to respect that and decide if I want to go in or not.

Re: Carry at holiday parties
03Lightningrocks wrote:NOBODY said anything like what you just posted. You have the right to tell me not to carry. It is NOT my responsibility to ask you what is permitted on your property and what is not, as long as I am within the law, I am well within my rights and NOT trampling yours to control your property. Again, If I am not told to leave my gun home, I assume it is ok since carrying my concealed weapon is not only legal but a constitutional right.TexasCajun wrote:And so it again comes to pass with topics of this sort, that we have entered the "fundamental" or personal rights vs property rights debate. I find it interesting that those who believe the RKBA is God-given and shall not be infringed are quick to ignore another fundamental right - the authority to control your own property, unless they're talking about their own property.
You control your property alright but do you have a list of what is allowed on your property so I am not violating any secret rules? The only way your post works is if I am told not to carry on the property and do so anyway...which is a violation of the law.
In this instance, would they have to tell you specifically that you can't bring drugs into their house? How about legal pornography? Obamacare brochures?
Note I'm not really disagreeing with you in the real world, just looking at where the limits are in your policy for discussion's sake.

Re: Carry at holiday parties
So in the instance I noted earlier, what if they have a sign at the door, that says no firearms without permission of owner?03Lightningrocks wrote:If they invite me, yes I do. The topic involved being invited, not breaking and entering. This in turn takes me back to the entirety of my post, not one line taken out of context as if that was the whole concept of what I said. This isn't a duel. LOL. I find it reasonable to exercise my constitutional rights, without permission. Like I said in my post, if they don't want a gun in their home it is their responsibility to tell me not to bring it, not mine to ask permission. Do you ask permission before you speak in their home?EEllis wrote:You've got no RIGHT to even be allowed in anyones home never mind carrying a gun into it. Now I wouldn't ask permission because I don't advertise but if I knew there was an issue I wouldn't carry in a house I knew my gun was unwelcome. Now maybe that means I wouldn't go or maybe that means I disarm but there is never anything wrong with having a bit of courtesy or showing some respect for other regardless if we have differing beliefs.03Lightningrocks wrote: It seems backwards to ask permission to exercise our right, regardless of who's home we are in.

03Lightningrocks wrote:Wow! I am amazed when I read a post from a person that says we should inform others we are carrying concealed. I am curious. Many times I see posts declaring a business as anti gun and refusing to go into the business. Just so I get this straight. If it is a personal relationship that is anti gun, you will continue to disarm and go in? Even if they don't post the property, you disarm, just in case it will make them nervous? "Out of respect"? I am not sure why anyone considers it a sign of disrespect to exercise our RKBA.
I think he was saying he lives or lived in a state where that was actually required.
Strangely, I now have a strange desire to put up an old fashioned wood sign that says "check all your six guns with the wiener dogs at your feet." The wife would probably love that.

Careful, if the drunk is a she and you did that, your Wife might be displeased...03Lightningrocks wrote:Honestly, I would not think about it. Lets swing it around slightly. To the group, if you're the one hosting a Christmas party would you have an issue with others CHLing? Would drinking be a factor?
Agreed though.

Re: Carry at holiday parties
I said your comment sounded a tad narcissistic as your sole factor seemed to be whether they knew or not. You still haven't expressed any other concern here, despite the fact its the actual topic being discussed. I could see now that that could be taken as an insult and I apologize. Then you project besmirching of honor, then you project others feeling guilty. Thats a lot of projecting. Lets just both take a breath eh and mellow out and go back to the topic.03Lightningrocks wrote:You have got to be kidding me. It was you that resorted to childish insults. We are done here. You obviously feel guilty about carrying concealed and I obviously don't. It is OK.
To my concern over carrying in someone's house and why I am torn on the issue. For people that know I carry...no biggie. For people that don't, well we always left the firearms at the door if we came in from hunting or shooting. It bothers me to not follow custom. I don't mind if others don't in this situation, and it doesn't apply in public, but I am not yet reconciled about the issue in a person's home, uninvited in that manner.
Part of it is that I am not sure how I would react. My other gun buddies - no problem. Others, I'm not sure how I'd react. Daughter's boyfriend? Well they have no right to exist in the first place...

That I understand. Thank you for the clarification.03Lightningrocks wrote:My rule is to not feel guilty about carrying a firearm. Respect has nothing to do with it. I really don't get the question. It is simply weird! Concealed means concealed! It makes me wonder if some feel like they are a "special" class of people. How the heck would anyone know we are carrying? Are we stupid enough or brash enough to run around bragging about it as if it makes us tough? Did you tell everyone that would listen you have a gun on you? It is suppose to be secret....concealed. The whole thing is simply confusing to me. Please explain how your friends acquired x-ray vision. I want it. Last but not least, why is it "safer" in the house of a friend than in a mall? You don't feel the need to carry 24/7? please enlighten me as to how I will know ahead of time when my firearm is needed. I would love to pick and choose when I carry. Bad guys show up at all places!
Seriously? Lets discuss things like an adult shall we?You ask the question as if you are on a higher plain than I. Believe me, I am every bit as honorable as you. Maybe more so.

I'm fine if others carry in others houses, but this comment strikes me as a bit narcissistic.

Re: Carry at holiday parties
If its a private house usually I won't unless I know the people are seriously pro-gun. Not for any reason other then for some reason I consider it inconsiderate.
