Yes. There was a little card in the envelope for mine that said, roughly, that they'd be using the photo on file from now on.

Edit: I went and grabbed the exact language that was on the card re. that (although I'm sure you probably got the same card):
I'd presume they don't mean just me, but everyone. It looks like they used my DL signature, too, but the card didn't say anything about that.

I just checked my mail and mine is in hand now as well.

For those who flipped to mailed on the same day I did - I think there's a high probability it's actually in the mail for you guys, postmark is yesterday.

I did not really expect that they would be working weekends (I saw the site go down for maintenance yesterday - and I'd expect IT guys to be working weekends - but I didn't really expect them to be processing stuff on the weekend)

Still no change from bg in review (and the DPS status site has been down for maintenance).

But one nice thing did happen today. I opened the door and there was a package. A package I'd not quite been expecting yet, because they'd said to expect it to get shipped 30 days after order submission, and that would be about ten days from now.

My gun belt is here. 1.5", bull hide, square buckle. When my CHL arrives, I am all set. (Edit: and - I expected it to make a difference. The belt I'd been using to carry at home was a belt made for it but it was a sort of ... I dunno, vinyl or some kind of polymer 'tactical' belt). I'd expected it to make a difference, I really did - but the difference it actually made is way beyond ... I don't really know how to describe it, it just sits good)

Is it possible the web status is not in sync with what is actually going on?

I can't really imagine it would take a week to review my background check. Although I suppose that 'In Review' might just be a placeholder for 'we're gonna get to it when we get to it'

Think I'll pass on the whole "Wally walk" thing. Way to silly.

I've been thinking about that a bit. To me my first carry will be the shouldering of a fairly large responsibility. I personally don't want to treat it in the 'Wally Walk' manner.

It's funny and it's silly and if it works for other people, that's cool, it's just not for me.

That said, I do think there can be a fair bit of value in 'marking out' the first actual public cc as something almost like a right of passage (depending on each individual, of course). In that vein I have plans to take the wife and boys out to do stuff, the first time I carry beyond my property. It'll start with a conversation with my boys about it, it'll end with a very nice dinner. The in-between, I haven't entirely lined up yet, but will likely include at least some shopping, etc.

I live pretty close to Austin (I could have reasonably gone and put it in the drop box rather than mailing it) and I mailed mine on the 18th - got my first update on Saturday. If you mailed later than i did and/or delivery time might be longer, I think that you probably have nothing to worry about, and they may just say you're supposed to wait 30 days from when they should have gotten it if you do call.

I am vaguely wondering if geographic location (what county you're in, or something like that) has any effect.

I ran a stop light in Las Vegas in '95 or '96-ish, (maybe '94?) and was ticketed for it (I wasn't paying enough attention, basically, it was one of those curves where there's warning lights before the curve for the traffic light after the curve). Immediately paid the fine by mail.

Other than that, never arrested, only fingerprinted for military service and the CHL app, have lived at the same address and worked at the same place for over five years. I am, background-wise, essentially boring, the only way I'd expect my background check to slow things up is if it put the reviewing trooper to sleep.

We'll see how it goes.

And ... first update. (I last checked around 9pm last night - just checked not really expecting any change because it's a Saturday, and bam, there it was)
