I am aware of that. I was doing it initially, when I first bought the gun, simply to test it before I took it out to the range with live ammunition. I always want to learn every aspect and every "feel" of a new gun before I fire it. And, unfortunately, eventually, when I let the slide snap, it did slam fire when chambering the first round. Thankfully, due to my meticulous safety protocols, no one got hurt, but these unintentional fire incidents are very unpleasant regardless.Excaliber wrote:
"Guiding the slide" is improper operation. The gun is designed to work properly when the slide is fully retracted and let go to chamber the round under full recoil spring return action.

Re: Urgent: XDs recall...
Recently received a NEW XD-S, as a replacement for the one I sent in. They decided not to "upgrade" mine due to a slam fire incident, and they simply replaced it with a brand new one (with a serial number outside the range of the recall qualifier). I don't know if it was manufactured after the recall or simply "upgraded" before being sent to be sold, but it feels much better than my old one. I used to have problems chambering rounds, when I would "guide" the slide instead of slamming it. It would not fully close (by about 1/8" or even less). On the new XD-S, no matter how gently I guide the slide, it goes all the way in and falls perfectly into place.
I haven't taken it to the range yet... Will see how it shoots soon.

It shoots better, because it's a bi-tone...The Annoyed Man wrote:[ Image ]

Now there are reports that guns, received on 09-09 are being marked as fixed, yet still no word on some 09-03...
Not right.

Re: Urgent: XDs recall...
Thanks, but the statuses for each firearm have been available for over a month now. I think, people know about it, although since it was new info for you, maybe adding it to the update is not a bad idea.Shoot_First wrote:Talked to SA today and was informed they have 4 status reports on their XDs recall web site at http://springfieldrecall.com/RecallUpdate.asp. Under the Get Started tab, enter your pistols SN. The status are: label provided; firearm received; firearm fixed; and firearm shipped back to you. I suggested they provide this information in tomorrow's update.

Re: Urgent: XDs recall...
Mine was delivered at 9:58 on September 3rd, too. The status has not changed as of yet, but there is a file on my XD-S due to the "slam fire" issue I experienced (you can read about the incident in the following thread: http://texaschlforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=68869" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; )Shoot_First wrote: Mine was delivered at 9:58am on Sep 3rd and I think ATDM's and Teamless' also arrived about the same time. Unlike Sookandy, I have not received a return notice from SA. Teamless? ATDM?
So, SA has been in communication with me regarding this issue, and I expect to receive my XD-S later than other people, whose guns were received by SA on that day.
In addition, Springfield received more than 7,000 guns on that day, and, by the estimates, they are fixing 2,500 per week (hopefully, more than that now, as they hired more people since the estimate was first established). So, even pessimistically speaking, it will take almost 3 weeks to fix the guns they received on September 3rd.
The wait doesn't really bother me, it was SA's initial absence of communication that was the problem, which they have addressed recently. Not the end of the world, but a little disappointing. I am glad they course corrected and set up regular updates.

Re: Urgent: XDs recall...
Denny Reese also stated that they are going to work in three shifts instead of the original two, so I honestly think that they will be ahead of the schedule. Also, the additional recall staff has been increased by 100 people instead of the original 25 they hired right after the recall. So, I am feeling optimistic.Excaliber wrote:
That's a healthy number that works out to about 20 weeks (5 months) to clear the 50,000 gun backlog if they don't pause for holidays (which they almost certainly will).
Guns shipped later will take even longer unless they're able to ramp up the daily repair number significantly.

Re: Urgent: XDs recall...
I was told by SA a few weeks ago that they were set up to repair 500 guns per day... That is, unless the final solution requires more (or less) time to apply the fix than what was estimated originally.Excaliber wrote:I'm looking forward to seeing some arithmetic around how many guns they can fix and ship in a week. It's going to have to be a huge number to get our guns back to us in anything that could be considered a reasonable time frame.
Consider that a few weeks ago they told callers they had around 50,000 guns. At a rate of 1000 fixes a week (which is likely optimistic), it would take a year to clear the backlog, let alone the ones shipped since that time.
