Re: Let's talk about knives
I never see LEO pull a knife. They pull a gun!

Re: Let's talk about knives
Well I wound up buying a Kershaw Blur. So far, I am very happy with it. Nice knife for the money that should do the job for a while.

Lots of changes:SRO1911 wrote:quick question about the law changes - does it specifically delete autos or are there any other changes? I have a rather pretty gold class BM Balisong - - I do not ever see myself carrying it, its too pretty to use, but I could imagine pairing it with the quintessential BBQ rig for a special occasion...

Most of these are minor. Autos are legal, but still subject to 5.5 inch blade rule. CHL class time decreases for new students. Used to be able to only draw your weapon if you are facing "deadly force". Come Sept. 1, sounds like you can show your weapon if met with just "force" (I interpret as force that could lead to serious bodily harm as opposed to just "death").

Re: Let's talk about knives
Thanks for all the feedback. I'll probably get an auto first but I suspect I will buy more down the road.

Re: Let's talk about knives
All good suggestions. I'm leaning towards an auto/switchblade because as of September 1, I can carry one. And....it will actually fit in my pocket comfortably. I agree fixed is more practical, but I am generally in business casual or suit and tie. Strutting about a client office with a big knife on my belt wouldn't sit well. Seems the auto/switchblade strikes the best compromise for utility and opens quick for self defense. I've accepted I'll probably have to drop a couple hundred bucks for a good quality auto.

Re: Let's talk about knives
Yep. Quite a few things kicked in, including making autos legal. I will probably get an auto, because I can

Re: Let's talk about knives
Benchmade seems to be very popular based on another forum I'm on. I'm guessing it is one of the better switchblades since it seems to come up a lot.tbrown wrote:I prefer a fixed blade when practical but carry a Benchmade folder at work.

Let's talk about knives
So I know there is a 5.5 inch limit on knives, and come September 1 an auto/switchblade knife will be legal.
With that in mind, what kind of knives do you have/prefer for self defense purposes?
