I was trying to make two points.

First.

Long before the XD had markings in English, people were putting their thumb on the back of semiauto slides when holstering to stop the slide from moving backwards in relation to the frame. ie keep the gun in battery.

Second.

The most important hand position is keeping your finger off the trigger unless you want to shoot. That works for all kinds of guns, including XD.

Now your post makes sense to me. My point is that with the XD, the practice of placing ones thumb on the rear of the slide provides an added measure of safety.

Actually if you are pressing the grip safety while holstering an XD/XDm pistol then you are holstering wrong. To properly holster an XD/XDm type firearm place your thumb on the back of the striker status indicator (rear of slide) while holstering, this will keep human hands from engaging the grip safety and will give you an extra measure of safety while holstering.

Hey thank you very much that was the exact kind of tip I was looking for. I knew to keep my index finger straight but I was wrapping my thumb as I unholstered and reholstered. So now to remember this tip I will just think to myself WRECK eM tECH and get my gun up

The incident that apostate refers to is actually the result of poor equipment design (Holster) and an inability to follow the four rules. The real issue I have with carrying a firearm that has broken, and been rendered serviceable with southern engineering, is more complex. Firearms contain many small and precisely made/fitted parts, broken parts tend to be smaller than the parts they come from and get into places where Mr. Murphy can better use them against the shooter when they need the weapon to work. Broken parts can also be an indicator of other, even more serious, issues that should be corrected immediately. Moving on from there disabling the grip safety configures most XD handguns (and all XDm versions) so that they have precisely the same safety features as a Glock, or similar firearms, which are perfectly safe when handled properly. Now some .45ACP XD pistols also feature a thumb safety giving the user an additional level of protection. My advice is to contact Springfield and have the gun fixed properly.

The XD is a Springfield Armory product, not a Taurus, but SA still has a lifetime repair policy on them so send it in and they will take care of it.
