Re: September Apps

Gentlemen,

Just a quick update to let you guys know that I am now part of fraternal order of chl holders. Officially, 62 days mailbox to mailbox. Thankful for all the information and support from everyone. Learned allot about the chl process and how our government works. Take care everyone.

escapedNJ wrote:I am still checking on the September folks!!! You'll seeing a 44 day mailbox to mailbox? anyone waiting longer?
Day 50 here, but I am cool as a cucumber! At least I got one update. I figured 60 days minimum from the start because of all the mess I heard about the process from friends and read on this forum, so I am truly not disappointed. After 60 days I will start calling requesting some kind of accountability though..

Anyone??
Don't worry about it. It stays like that all the way until mailed. Why? I don't know.
LOL, thank you! I wanted to be sure just in case I missed something. DPS is difficult to deal with and it is so time consuming reaching them by phone. Truly, I prefer not to contact them unless necessary. They acted somewhat annoyed or as if they are being inconvenienced the one and only time I have called. I never knew that getting my chl in a "shall issue" State could be so...mysterious, lol! It almost appears as if DPS practices some kind of pseudo-intellectual "may issue" type of procedures to issue a chl, instead of a true "shall issue" practice..

TxDadOf8 wrote:Sounds like they're making progress! I'm curious when you submitted your application...

DPS received my complete packet on Sept. 20 and I just received my first update. I am a newbie applicant here so I am learning the ropes of everything, lol. What I've learned is that the process (and the laws) have come a long way, but of course can still use some improvement. The biggest unknown right now is the waiting game, which is pretty inconsistent. Applications are not really logged in and processed on a first come first served basis. The are just processed however they do them. Does not matter if you mail it regular, certified or electronically. I don't understand the system. I don't know if the employees who process them have case loads or flow charts where management track efficiencies. Some folks get lucky and receive their chl prior to individuals who submitted their applications before them, some folks do not. For such a serious constitutional right and liberty, I am taken back at the process because I thought everything would be more efficient/refined here in 2013, but such is life. Honestly, I believe the employees responsible to process chl's are doing the best they can with the cards they have been dealt, especially when they become inundated with applications. Perhaps if the system they use was modernized things would move along more quickly. In reality, once I discovered the current process, I just planned for 60 days. With this being day 46 of 60, I optimistically look forward to my chl in 14 days, lol! (Hopefully)

Thank you for your information 125Dad! I hope it won't be long for your wife either. I am thankful to hear that you all received an update in the time frame I submitted mine (DPS received all my stuff on 9/20) because it shows that at least some progress is being made. To date, I haven't received an update yet and when I called DPS, they claimed an ignōrantia (until data is entered) excuse and that there is no one to speak with until it is. Since DPS apparently does not practice first come, first served, I am hoping for an update soon as well. In the meantime still patiently waiting, lol! Please do let us know when you guys get another update. Thanks again!
The waiting part Is the worst. When I did this for my CHL It was 127 days from mailbox to mailbox and 45 days to the first update. All I can say is that It Is worth It. Never felt safer.
127 days, wow! Sure hope I don't have to wait that long, lol. Why so long though? Did DPS provide a reason as to such a delay? That seems far out there, outside accountability.

Newbie CHL applicant here. USPS delivered my required forms to DPS on 09/20/2013, yet still no update online. Today I post-30 day called DPS and the lady I spoke with (and I did ask her to repeat herself) told me that not only has no data been entered for me, but they have absolutely no way of telling me anything until my "data" is entered. When I informed her that the USPS had delivered all of my documents to them on 09/20/2013, she responded that they still have no way of knowing and that I was welcome to call back next week. Any suggestions? Should I just leave it alone and continue to wait patiently or resubmit my documents online and write them an email inquiring as to my status? I like many don't have a problem waiting, but concerned about how DPS appears to arbitrarily keep one in the dark about the process due to being inundated with applications/renewals.
BewaffneteBürger

I called DPS and they lady i talked to said it takes 3 to 4 weeks for applications to be sent for data entry. She didn't say how long applications stay in data entry but once the application has been entered into the system the process moves fairly fast. Most one this forum have their CHL in hand with in a week or so from the first updated on the website.
Thank you RugYG! I am hoping to see/hear something soon! I followed escapedNJ's prompt and resubmitted my documents online. I'm optimistic of progress and will continue to do what I have to do, patiently wait, lol! I appreciate this forum, it is very informative. It has definitely opened my eyes not only to chl wait times, but to the disparity of DPS processing times (e.g. DPS does not process things on a first come, first served basis). Thanks again!

You may want to post in the October thread, but some of us just got our 1st updates after 5 weeks of mailing it in.... So you maybe waiting a little bit.
----

Thank you for the response escapedNJ! I apologize (to all) though, I actually meant 09/20/2013 (and yes, I did provide the lady at DPS with the correct date, lol). I think I am getting everything in continuing to read this message board; Guess I am just taken back how the DPS is operating here. Thought the process would be more efficient, refined. Learning here. Question, since now I am in my 5th week, do you think I should still just wait or further contact them?
I think you will probably have an update any day. I coverd myself by sending the documents online as well. you can do that via email in the contact us section.
Appreciate it bro. I went ahead and resubmitted my documents online just in case, and after reading 125Dad's post that his wife mailed her documents on the 23rd, DPS received them on the 26th, then got an update 10/25. I understand now that it is an undetermined waiting game that is definitely not first come, first served, lol. Shame though, because it reflects a measure of government inefficiency in a area that should not be..
