This sentence, to me, says all I need to hear. It always gets my hackles up when I hear a politician say I have a "right to bear arms". In other words...I have a right to carry arms in defense of my country or fellow citizens as a member of the military or police.
As most on this board know, that's NOT what the 2A is about.
The real problem with Obama's statement is that it is at best a half truth. Sure, he favors "commonsense regulations like background checks".
And if that was the extent of it, that would be no problem for gun owners. (Even the NRA backs the NICS instant check system.)
But we all know that Obama backs far more than background checks. He also supports the DC gun ban for instance. He has also voted to support every piece of gun control / gun ban legislation that has come before him both in the IL Senate and the US Senate.
So right there, we see that his "individual right" view of the 2A is meaningless.
If he will lie about this, what else will he lie about?
