I wish I could say I enjoyed waiting with everyone but this whole thing took way too much time....Still, we're glad to have it. Adios!

Re: November waiting

Got another status change! Status now changed to "mailed"

Timeline so far:

Class: sometime in October
Application submitted: 11/1/13
Fingerprints and docs: 11/4/13
First update (background check under review): 01/16/14
Second update (background check complete; manufacturing pending): 01/28/14
Third update (CHL mailed) 01/29/14

Time from app submission to first status update: 76 calender days, 52 work days (excluding Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Day)
Time from app submission to current status: 89 calender days, 61 work days (excluding Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Day)

We don't live too far from Austin, so we will be looking for it in the next few days. There might even be the possibility of having it by the end of the week but at least by next weekend for sure. So nice to finally be at the end of this whole ridiculous, way-too-long process

Re: November waiting

Got another status change! Now in "manufacturing pending"

Timeline so far:

Class: sometime in October:
Application submitted: 11/1/13
Fingerprints and docs: 11/4/13
First update (background check under review): 01/16/14
Second update (background check complete; manufacturing pending): 01/28/14

Time from app submission to first status update: 76 calender days, 52 work days (excluding Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Day)
Time from app submission to current status: 88 calender days, 60 work days (excluding Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Day)

Back when we first submitted I told my wife that it was likely that she would have her CHL by Christmas (she wanted to show it off to my parents) and definitely by the new year (oh how wrong I was! lol). Now here we are pushing Feb and although there is light at the end of the tunnel, it will probably be another week or so before we have her CHL in hand. Regardless, its nice to know that she will have it soon

mark1969 wrote:I guess we should all call our senators and reps up and see if we can get moved ahead of those of us from prior months that are still waiting. I am in complete agreement that the process is taking too long, just burns me that someone would call their senator and portray getting special treatment..

We never talked about getting moved up ahead to the front of the line, we just wanted to see what our status was and if they had in fact received documentation. What prompted reaching out to the elected officials is that we had tried to contact DPS multiple times and no response was ever received. When they called, they simply said A.) they had received all the required documentation and B.) told us where we were in the queue. No attempt was made to get moved ahead in line. There's nothing unethical or entitled about that. Remember, our elected officials are accountable to us and so we have every right to make requests of them and to make inquiries about the vast bureaucratic machinery that is the state government.

Re: November waiting

My wife applied online for her first TX CHL on 11/1/2013 and emailed documents on 11/4/2013.. The website STILL shows "application in progress....." with no status updates.

However, there may be light at the end of the tunnel for us all. We decided to inquire with our state senator and representative about what the hold up was (thinking that might light a fire under someone's butt). Today, one day later, she received two phone calls from DPS telling her that she is at the end of the background check and that it should only be a few more days before it can finish processing and be sent off for printing. However, she also received an email today from someone over at DPS stating that her application has not yet begun the process and that the average timeframe for confirming receipt of emailed or mailed materials is 10-12 weeks.

So what we learned is that contacting your elected leaders may not speed up the process any, but it will get a response. I'm thinking sometime late next week or maybe early the following week is when we will expect to have the license mailed, if not already received.
