I know this string is old but, I just finished the Instructor's course last week and this issue was debated again. The general consensus was that some of the school districts were wanting to push the issue and their justification would be due to the fact that the school busses were loading and unloading in the parking lot. They claimed that this extended the no carry zone from property line to propertly line. The overwhelming belief of the staff was that you would not be in violation in the parking lot but, they felt that it may not be a good idea to the the first to test this in court unless you just liked spending your money on legal fees. The suggestion was that if the school posted signs upon entry to the parking lot you would need to adhere to them.
