When we were at the range waiting to shoot, there was a so called "gun guy" that was dry firing his weapon in the part of the range at Bass Pro where you pay to get in. I was about to kick him...real hard. I was shocked that first of all people act that way and second of all the instructors didn't say anything. This idiot should have known better too since he was bragging about how he was a competition shooter and all. After that stunt, I figured the only competition shooting he did was at the shooting gallery at the state fair.

WELL...this is actually a "gun guy." I know...don't ask me. I don't know why he did it either. It just goes to show that if you aren't paying attention that an "unloaded" gun can be deadly. In fact, I treat all my guns as if they are loaded at all times. Yeah, liberal rhetoric. I've never pointed ANY gun at anyone whether it was loaded or not. You just don't do it unless you are dumb enough to point it towards your own hand.Photoman wrote:Venus Pax wrote:A sad state of affairs.govnor wrote:His doctor told him though...that if he was an illegal alien it would have been taken care of since the federal government pays for them. The "federal government" doesn't pay for it, WE DO. But illegal immigration is a whole different subject...
Regarding CHL training, this issue brings up one of my major complaints about how the law is written. I think the distinction bewtween SA and NSA pushes people away from revolvers, a much safer option for the great majority of CHL applicants.
Lets face it, most people out there carrying guns are not "gun people" and would be MUCH safer with a good double-action revolver.
I'm so with you on the revolver thing though. As I was replying to someone else that doesn't feel comfortable carrying an auto locked and loaded. A revolver is a perfect choice for most people. It's overlooked a lot of times because of the stigma of it. In fact, at the CHL class, the people packing a 10 or more round clip go first. If you are a revolver person they put you at the end and recommend that you test with an auto so that you can carry both. I can see how that could scare some normally non gun people off. Personally, I like revolvers a LOT.

Well, if you want to talk about another disgrace. He had no insurance. They did go down on the original price just to get him to pay, which he did. His doctor told him though...that if he was an illegal alien it would have been taken care of since the federal government pays for them. Since he was just a regular old American though...pay up.piro wrote: In my opinion it is the hidden disgrace of our medical system that never gets talked about or brought out in the light. But that's a whole another thread.

It was .45 actually...even worse! It did exit his hand out of the side. The bullet basically came out from the pinky side of his left hand. He was in his house alone, so no one else would have been hurt. I saw the aftermath and there was blood everywhere. Amazing how much blood can come out of your hand...kingalls wrote:Did the bullet lodge in his hand or did it exit? If it exited, where did it land? Luck that no one else was hurt with a stray .40 caliber.

Maybe I can shed some light on this. A couple of years ago one of my friends shot himself in the hand with an XD .45. Don't ask, because I can't divulge the details without his permission... Anyway, he went to the ER and of course his hand had to be operated on. Total cost was around $12,500. I don't know how long he was in the hospital, but I don't think it was more than one night.I do NOT want to know what that dude's cost would have been, what with the Ambulance ride, stitches and actual treatment going on!

I'm not implying that anyone should be denied owning gun. I'm saying that some people should just not own a gun. Some people should not be allowed to drive a car. I've met some individuals that no matter how much safety training you provide them, they will never get it. There's an idiot that works for my father who was dishonorably discharged from the army because he shot a snake with an automatic weapon in the middle of the night...in the middle of the military encampment. Imagine the mayhem that ensued after that took place. You can't tell me that that guy has any business with a firearm. I don't care how likely he is to be raped and beaten while walking down the street. :)
I'm also not saying that people should have to go through a gun safety course to buy a gun. The gun control people would love that. Unfortunately, incidents like this add fuel to their fire.
