I've never understood the fascination with the 1911. At least as the end all be all of pistols. They are pretty guns, for sure. But something you stake your life on? I guess I've heard a lot of bad stories. One time I rented a Kimber at the DFW gun range and it jammed a couple of times. I think that was more due to not being cleaned properly than anything else.

Besides, you have to really think about the 1911 that you're buying. Some manufacturers are better than others. There are many custom gunsmiths out there making them. If I buy a Glock .45, then I know it will work. With the 1911, I'm not so sure. I don't know enough about them and don't have the time to devote. I've often admired the Para Ordnance, but have heard that it's not a good gun. Well, it costs almost a grand, so why would I pay that much for something that's not that great?

I'm not trying to start a war or anything...the first pistol I ever admired was a 1911. It was a picture in the dictionary at my grade school in Chilicothe, Texas. I always wanted one. Yes, my love of guns goes that far back. I definitely would buy one, but I just don't know that I would carry one. I'm pretty sure that my Glock will always work. I'm positive that my revolver will work.
