Actually, you are not the last one from May -- but I may be. The last time I phoned DPS I was in background check status. I received a letter wanting more documentation -- FBI found an arrest from when I was a kid, 46 years ago. Strange that they did not also note that I do not have a criminal record associated with that arrest. Also weird because I have passed the FBI NICS background check when purchasing firearms. I am always delayed with NICS and now I know why. I had to contact the county Superior Court and get a criminal background check showing that I do not have a criminal record. That info arrived a few days ago and was faxed yesterday to DPS. I had contacted the DOJ in California prior to applying for the CHL, and obtained a fingerprint based background check. Their letter in response also said no criminal history -- I also forwarded that letter to DPS yesterday. After receiving that letter from DOJ and before I had applied for the CHL I called the California DOJ to tell them I needed documentation that I had no criminal history I was told, "No arrest record and no criminal history. As far as we are concerned it never happened. Answer "no" on any application regarding arrests." That particular advice from the DOJ was not good advice, but DPS now has proof that no criminal record associated with that arrest exists. It was so long ago I did not even remember the year in which it occurred.

83 days and counting. :banghead:

You would think that would be there job to research it consider its called a "background check" after all. Hopefully this is not my issue because I do not feel like running around to the county courts to try and see if they can pull my records for the dps seeing I have no paperwork on my stuff.

LOL. RIGHT. Luckly my wife is off today so she is going to take care of it for me. Tell'n ya, Call your Rep. they will be more than happy to take care of it for ya.

Guess it's just me and you left. I've been in background check since July 8...time to move on a lil. Called again this morning and they actually forwarded my call the the person reviewing my application, not that she answered but I did leave a message. I encourage you to call.
I called Thursday and apparently my background check was sent to another technician for further investigation. Based on earlier phone conversations with them I believe they started my background check on July 3rd.

How long can a background check really take? I bet I can have one completed for me in an hour or 2.
No idea but I somehow get the feeling your background check and mine ended up in the same workers stack LOL.

Right! When I talked to the guy who forwarded me to the person doing the review he said, " I'm not for sure what is going on here but I'll forward you to her. Maybe she just has more of a work load than the others." Are you kidding me! How can one person in a office of several doing the same job, have more of a work load. What a joke.

Re: May 2014

Talked with my State Rep Office today and they said that they would call and they said, " A phone call from us and it will be shaken loose!" Said that the DPS has out sourced the chl process to a third party contractor and that they were not happy with the service they were receiving.

It has been a fun 74 day mailbox to mailbox wait (not really) and I hate to go, but I can't stay here. So here's to my last beer and shot of whiskey in the waiting room and here's a farewell to all of you fellow waiter minions that listened to all my rants and dealt with my impatience...I bid you good luck and may you receive yours soon too. I'll be around to answer anyone's questions since most just get their license and leave. Good luck and good bye, for now.

Not so lucky I'm at 68 days today and will have been 75-80 before I receive it I'm sure...when did you submit?

Submitted mine 5/19. Talked with DPS again on 7/18 and they said they didn't even start on mine till 7/8 and that's really when my 60 days started. WHat the WHat!
