Re: 147th Annual NRA Meeting in Dallas

We had a great time there too yesterday. Next time we go to one of these, I will use the app to pick out vendors I want to see and plan it out. Just winging it and walking the floor, we found we were walking from one end to the other and back again trying to hit booths that we wanted to see but were running out of time!

Yes, not only per members here, but per info that the NRA has published shortly after the announcement that the VP would be speaking.

The bold text tells you the forum (scheduled for the 4th) is off limits.

Scroll down and you can see that the forum is in the arena.

Ergo, the arena is off limits during the forum.

Now, was that hard?
Also posted here https://www.nraam.org/attend/firearms-policy/

And in the note about additional info from the Secret Service https://www.nraam.org/media/2612/am2018 ... notice.pdf

It is all there if folks would just read it...

Be funny if they had a good ol' gun-check, like the days of old.
Or, don't go to the leadership forum.

They would if they could but they can't.

SoccerDad, I am not saying the NRA is powerless but let's look at the gravity of the situation. Both the VP and President are coming to speak in person to the NRA meeting. Why would the NRA shoot themselves in the foot politically (again) and turn them away? They wouldn't and they shouldn't.
I think the whole thing is stupid... Attending the largest gun convention in the country and then strip law abiding citizens so you can speak at the event. I'd rather they stay in the white house and speak from there and have them televise it on NRATV... At least that way they wouldn't look like such hypocrites. I understand the whole secret service laws and stuff but it doesn't make them look any less like hypocrites imo...
The press would spin things in that scenario as they would just say that even POTUS or VPOTUS didn't want to be around the guns. It really is a no-win scenario when dealing with the MSM. I still plan to go. I still plan to look around at all the vendor booths, possibly get some autographs from a few 2a celebrities. Perhaps even meet up with some forum members I have yet to meet, and hang out with some I've had breakfast with before.
Yea but in that situation would you rather the MSM say "POTUS and VP don't want to atend NRA becuase of guns" or "POTUS ban guns when speaking at NRA convention" i guess either scenario isn't favorable....
Well, "POTUS ban guns when speaking at NRA convention" is a straight up lie... And if the media is reporting outside of the area that is controlled by Secret Service, I bet some open carriers would walk through their shot just to prove it.

Remind me again what Trump has done for gun rights as POTUS, other than attack (currenty) legal accessories?
He beat Hillary in the election... that right there is huge! Had Vegas and Parkland happened with Hillary in the white house, we would be complaining about a whole bunch more than bump stocks.

Having them appear in person at the convention carries a stronger message of support than a video. Besides, this is one event at the convention... 2 hours out of a 3 day convention... not really the end of the world like some on here are trying to make it out to be.

It is illegal. You can't call the police just because you think they fit a profile. Should I call the police when I see a high school aged kid on a DART bus? After all, recent shootings have been done by high school aged folks. Maybe those two teenage boys are getting ready to go on a rampage. Same thing for members of ethnic groups that have a higher chance of committing crimes.

If DART is not publicly owned, then they should post 30.07 signs or just give verbal notice to anyone OC'ing.
What is illegal about making a man with a gun report when there truly is a man with a gun? How the police respond is more important...

They can't post... publicly owned, paid for by taxes from member communities.

The Secret Service notice specifically states the "Arena"... think about it, if it was going to include the exhibit halls, then the vendors would have to clear out as well. Can't have any of those off limit items in the area, and that would include any being sold by vendors.

https://www.nraam.org/media/2612/am2018 ... notice.pdf
Yes, we know that the arena is definitely off limits, and I would *assume* that the rest of the area is OK. Again, it's an assumption. I've learned many times in the past, don't assume anything. There was confusion in the air, and the NRA did NOT do anything to clear it up. That only caused negative publicity to go their way, as if recent events haven't already done enough damage.
It's not an assumption... It is what the Secret Service notice states. If it were to include the exhibit halls, the Secret Service would have stated such.

Meanwhile I will be enjoying myself without confusion, unless the umpires go to sleep during the games.
What confusion? The policy has been posted for days! The only confusion was from people not reading what was posted. What disrespect by the city of Dallas? And having the POTUS and VPOTUS speak from a remote location does not make nearly the impact that having them come in person does!
Right, for days and questions have been asked for months. Just like Dallas leadership considered canceling NRA convention before they realized it would start a law suit they could not win.
Questions about carry have not been asked for months... no none knew POTUS or VPOTUS was coming. The convention center policy regarding firearms has been posted for months, even longer... and that is to allow carry that follows state law.

And Dallas leadership? Who, Dwaine Caraway? One person? I believe he is the only council member that supported that view, but I could be wrong since I am not a Dallas resident and don't follow their city council issues that much.

I guess I will not be making the trip to Dallas after all.
