That's not so much of an issue now, but between wars when the public's memory has grown hazy about what the military is for...things can get a little uglier around military bases than the usual civilian - military tensions.cb1000rider wrote:Where can you live in the US that is hostile to military service? I think as veterans become an even smaller % of the population, it's good to remind folks that we're around. However, if you lived or worked in an area that was hostile to military service, you might not want to advertise. International travel could be an issue too.

I just took the version St. Louis mailed me when I requested new copies of my DD214 (was remarkably fast when you apply using the online form and fax back the signed page) and the DL office had no issues. You couldn't tell the difference between it and a high quality copy. The official envelope might have helped. Otherwise, don't know how they could have known.
