Re: Sept 2014
I actually had 5 holsters before my plastic came. I wanted to be familiar with carrying before venturing out, so I did so occasionally around the house. I also practiced drawing (safely), and of course lots of range time. Your Remora may be the only holster you get and use, or you may find different...

Re: Sept 2014
DPS confirmed my application was received on 8/28 and the status change occurred around 4 days later and I had plastic 5 days after that with a holiday weekend. Until the status change option appeared, it only gave me an option for CHL Instructor application. In other words, everything looks like it...

Who are you related to at DPS?
Ha! You'd think so, right? I was prepared for weeks/months based on some of the posts here. My hope is that they've corrected their backlog issue so we can improve that 1 in 37 stat for CHL carriers in Texas.

Plastic in hand, first trip to...the Post Office.
Greetings, I received my CHL in the mail today and had to head straight to the Post Office (ironically, to pick up a holster). Parked in a different parking lot, locked my gun up inside the car and went inside. If it makes any difference, I was within a mile of Walmart. I did stop at Market Street (...

Re: August 2014 *UPDATE*
First post here....and I'll start with an embarrassing admission: Several years ago I went through CHL class, qualifying and the ___________ part of getting passport photos and all the paperwork done. I even paid for everything. I never sent it in. Ever. Yeah, not real proud of that. Anyway, fast f...

Re: Short Wait!!
Congrats....another good guy on even ground on the street.
Did you check status online, and if so, how long from when you saw the ability to make changes on the website until you had plastic in hand?

Re: When is my handgun on or about my person...question?
Thanks again for all the replies (especially yours, Leakywaders). I'm probably reading the responses incorrectly, so let me dial it in for maybe a clearer answer: I understand the legal impairment BAL is .08 and officer can use discretion when deciding if the driver is in violation, even if under .0...

Re: When is my handgun on or about my person...question?
I understand it's semantics, but to be sure, I'm not "worried". I'm just trying to determine a seemingly gray area for me with regards to not having a way to lock the gun up in a trunk. I'm absolutely not condoning alcohol consumption and carrying, but in the event I'm returning home and s...

When is my handgun on or about my person...question?
Greetings, My question is of a legal nature. I drive an SUV that is bereft of a trunk or locking dash/console. I have a cable anchored locking NANO gun vault in the vehicle not within arms reach of the front seat for when I encounter a 30.06 or 51% establishment. Is the gun, locked inside the gun va...
