Well said!lbuehler325 wrote:An earlier post suggested that OC was juvenile and silly. Another said it was mostly impractical. And another said it was practical only in that it would allow comfortable carry during summer months without fear of printing. I guess I see each point of view... but I support OC on the premise that it is my 2nd Amendment right. Licensing and taxing for a right actually makes it not a right. And those are certainly infringements on my right to bear arms. Would I OC? Not if I could comfortably conceal. But I certainly don't want to force another citizen to conform to my personal opinion of how to carry their weapon. I only want my politicians to protect our rights.

Re: Petition to Allow Open Carry in Texas
Unfortunately, a poll here on the Forum would not be very accurate. There are many members on this Forum who are not CHL holders.tomtexan wrote:I like that idea AEA. It would even be interesting to do a poll here on the forum just to see how the majority of the members feel about it. No discussion or pros or cons, just a poll with a simple yes or no. Unless one has already been done of course.AEA wrote: What I think is needed to put this to rest is let current CHL Holders decide. A poll managed by DPS with mailings/emails (whatever) to each and EVERY ACTIVE CHL HOLDER asking their option, yes or no. Then present that to the Legislature if the majority is yes.
Additionally the Google/Yahoo Bots scan this Forum constantly and once a poll such as that is made public thru the search engines, it would be useless for accuracy. People will register and vote just to skew the poll. The majority of them would not even know what a gun looks like.
And no way to limit it to active Texas CHL holders.

Good idea Charles!Charles L. Cotton wrote:Let's get back to the topic the OP wanted to discuss.
Chas.
I personally could care less about a petition signed mostly by non-Texans (OP).
I am not interested in a Majority Consensus of Texas Residents either. I don't want the BG's to determine anything.
What I think is needed to put this to rest is let current CHL Holders decide. A poll managed by DPS with mailings/emails (whatever) to each and EVERY ACTIVE CHL HOLDER asking their option, yes or no. Then present that to the Legislature if the majority is yes.
The bill would have to be worked out to be licensed or unlicensed, etc.....and I am sure you could come up with that as you see fit. I would of course agree with whatever you presented with the idea to get it passed if that is what the majority decided.

Re: Petition to Allow Open Carry in Texas
DID you see me type anything about the CHL-16? No you didn't because I did not ever say/type anything about CHL-16. I said "there is no such thing as "brandishing" in Texas". And I stand by that.WinoVeritas wrote:You got that right.74novaman wrote:Good luck, I think you might be waiting for a while.AEA wrote:I'm waiting for the "I'm sorry, you are correct" from him........
He went straight from his first incorrect statement to either calling the legislature idiots or implying that they were thinking about brandishing when they wrote other parts of the law, or maybe both. Either way, it doesn't prove him wrong in his mind.
I never said it was in the CHL-16, just stated it was against the law. If you don't think brandishing is against the law because it's not stated in the CHL-16 or that Texas does not have a law against brandishing, do what I said in my earlier post and see what happens while prancing around in front of a LEO.
There is NO LAW in Texas that addresses "brandishing" and the esteemed Mr. Cotton has already backed up that statement.
And who in their right mind would do anything like what you suggested as "brandishing" in front of a LEO? Just stupid rhetoric.
Now either shut up about it or post the Texas Law that says anything about "brandishing".

Re: Petition to Allow Open Carry in Texas
WHY do all these Open Carry threads always turn into trends like this thread?
I'm SICK of it!
Why don't they just pass it (like other States have) and let the ones that carry decide how they want to do it. Then we can end this if/or discussion for good.

Majority of the signatures are not even Texas residents! What good is this?
