I went the AZ route simply because of the cost factor... I had my TX chl but let it expire a few years ago. Mainly because TX finally fixed the "traveling law" for having a handgun in your vehicle.
Sent my application off on Dec 5, and received the permit on Dec 19th.
Total cost $60 plus the stamps to mail...
All it requires is proof of training -- Sent in a copy of my TX Hunter safety certificate
Finger prints were free to me because my cousin is a local Deputy, but Fort Worth PD will do them for $20...

TX Chl-- $140
Class $60-80
range fee-$15-20

No brainer for me.
I will eventually get my TX CHL again for when we go to CO for vacations..
