When I was a boy ( probably 9 yrs old ) my dad picked me up at DFW after returning from visiting my Aunt in Massachusetts. I had brought back a couple items I was gifted in my checked baggage. Well at the time, they didn't have bathrooms outside of security at the baggage claim area, so while I was in the car or something (probably with my mom), he took my suitcase back through security to use the facilities before we embarked on our 1+ hour drive home (this was back when you didn't need a ticket to get through security. It took him some time to actually come back... They had no problem with pocket knife, but they definitely took him elsewhere and read him the riot act over the plastic snub-nose cap gun in my bags! Needless to say he wasn't too pleased when he finally returned to the car....
