Re: Republican Convention: Cruz supporters planning trouble?
I agree with you. Mr. Cruz is not part of the Republican elite or establishment. I am not vitriolic toward Sen. Cruz. I am disappointed. I wanted to see him rise above all this and show leadership and give the party direction to overcome the Clinton plague. He did not do that.JALLEN wrote:It will come as quite a shock to the so-called "Republican elite" that Cruz is really one of them. I don't understand the vitriol over Cruz. He didn't use the "e" word. So what? If he refuses to participate with Trump in the campaign, that might be a different story.
I wonder if there is a "Republican elite." I've followed Republican Party politics for more than 50 years, and don't recall ever hearing the term, certainly not as a pejorative. There were "RINOS", "striped pants Republicans", "Rockefeller Republicans", etc. Everybody needs a bogeyman to rally themselves against.
If Trump wins, it will be with a great many votes unenthusiastically cast by those who wish there was a better choice. Maybe he will get there the old fashioned way, by "earning it."
The Republican party has had it's factions for as long as I can remember. What I have seen in my 68 years is the rise of the political ruling class and it is not bound by party lines, values, platforms or such. They are not bogeymen or bogeywomen. They are bound by the desire for power and the will to retain it at all costs.

Now, I can't dispute anything you said because it is basically an opinion (and a little conspiracy theory thrown in). So I can't say you are wrong. But, if this is true and she was able to manipulate the Republican party (and some of Trump's support is external to the Party) into going along with her "fix", I would rather take a chance on the "fix" winning than the "fixer". The fix doesn't work if the fixer loses, unless you believe Trump will roll over for the Clinton's or the Democrat party if he is elected. In that case, we are now screwed and don't know it.chamberc wrote:I think the important thing to remember about Trump, is that he has never stood a remote chance of being elected. That's why Hillary picked him as her "fix". You have to go back, but Trump has continually been a huge supporter of both Bill & Hillary, and only ceased that support when Hillary needed him to torpedo any conservative chances at the White House again."
Trump did what almost every other successful, top tier business man has done. He played both sides of the fence. It is not an insignificant event but I hardly count it as full on support for the Clinton's policies and ideals. He has had wealth, power, name recognition and status outside politics for a long time. The Clinton's have slowly gained those things over the last twenty years and have just lately gained enormous wealth. Ms. Clinton has not tasted the seat of power her husband and Mr. Trump have. That is what drives her now.

Re: Republican Convention: Cruz supporters planning trouble?
Ted Cruz basically committed political suicide. He is one of the most intelligent and articulate individuals I have heard speak. He could be the next Justice Antonin Scalia. Alas, his ego gets in the way of his judgement at times. Maybe his strategy is to hope the Republicans hold Congress and sacrifice the presidency for the next four years. If the Senate is lost, the Supreme Court is lost almost immediately in 2017. What's left of a conservative Federal judicial system will be lost. I don't have to explain the consequences of that scenario. What will be the result when all 13 Federal Appellate courts look like the 9th Circuit?
Trump was not my first or second choice but he is now my only choice. This is a case where the devil you don't know is far better than the devil you do know and I know the outcome of a Clinton presidency. We have no idea what it is like to live in a truly Godless society. Four years from now, I may not be able to say that. This forum would not be allowed to exist by then.

Re: Republican Convention: Cruz supporters planning trouble?
Regardless of your choice of candidate, all of those on stage signed a pledge to support the nominee. We now see who has integrity. The one I liked the least was Jeb Bush. But, if he were the nominee, I would vote for him in a heartbeat over the chance the Clinton's could get back into the White House. Too many SC picks coming up and 2A will be watered down to being meaningless.
