Re: 147th Annual NRA Meeting in Dallas

There is an update on the NRA website...
FIREARMS POLICY FOR THE NRA ANNUAL MEETINGS & EXHIBITS
During the 2018 NRA Annual Meetings & Exhibits, lawfully carried firearms will be permitted in the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center and the Omni Dallas Hotel in accordance with Texas law. When carrying your firearm remember to follow all federal, state, and local laws.

* PLEASE NOTE: Due to the attendance of the Vice President of the United States at the NRA-ILA Leadership Forum on Friday, May 4, the U.S. Secret Service will be responsible for event security around the Arena at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center. As a result, firearms and firearm accessories, knives or weapons of any kind will be prohibited in the forum prior to and during his attendance. Click here for additional information.
https://www.nraam.org/attend/firearms-policy/

I'm going to check this on Friday morning before we roll up there to make sure nothing changes. Would hate to get up there and have to leave our jewelry in the car which would be worth more than the car. I'm sure there's a joke in there somewhere.

Like every other time Secret Service has been involved at these, the ONLY area that has firearm and knife restrictions is the rooms the POTUS and VP will be in. It does NOT include the rest of the campus.

Plain and simple, this isn't the NRA's decision. It's not the VPOTUS' decision. It's not the POTUS' decision. It is solely the Secret Service's decision. I'm not sure what is so hard to understand about that.
We are being played for fools. By all accounts, it will be just the forum where the VP and POTUS are speaking not the exhibits that are off limits. The MSM is purposefully being vague to get us riled up and get us to fight among ourselves, and its working.

flechero wrote:Come on guys- the President and Vice President aren't "regular guys"... and should not be expected to do what we do. The represent our Nation, and as such are in need of more protection than most individuals. I bet none of you has issue with them flying in protected airspace, or having armored transport or weapons on planes, etc. So expecting them to speak at a large gathering of armed, UNVETTED people with no checks on their background or mental state is literally the dumbest thing I have read on this forum in a while.

I just wish there were a "gun check" room so I could go to his speech. I'm catching a ride to Dallas with a friend and taking the rail from there to meet family so I will be armed, with no way to store the gun to watch the speech.
Please don't take what I've said as thinking we should be allowed in to see Pence armed. I just want to know what is going to be off limits while he is there. If they just let anybody in to his speech with our door passes, all it would take was a $30 membership to get an opportunity to do something bad. A gun valet before you went in to see him speech shouldn't be that hard of a concept to pull off.

We need to quit fighting ourselves.

I did not get any insert with my name, member number or anything like that.
Has anyone else seen anything different?
Yep, just a card that say NRA on it and "a show of strength". No membership information on the door pass.

What is your HANDGUN policy?

Licensed handguns (both concealed carry and open carry) are permitted on premise, as allowed by state law, unless the type of event being held at the KBHCCD falls under an exception that would prohibit a person with a license to carry a handgun at the event. Any exceptions will be determined on a case-by-case basis by the Director and will be in accordance with state law.

Handguns must be carried in a manner that is allowed by state law.

Unlicensed handguns are NOT PERMITTED on the premises.

Police department or Security staff may request proof of handgun license. Your understanding and cooperation is appreciated.
Thanks for posting that as I had a question about open carrying. Hopefully Pence speaking only affects the area he is in and not the entire building.

Geeze, I hope that no one tries to go and reeducate them.
I just hope I don't have to explain that what's in my backpack is legally a pistol and not a SBR...

Re: 147th Annual NRA Meeting in Dallas

We are 2 weeks away and people are making plans to travel. It would be nice if we could get some kind of heads up on what we can and cannot carry just for the exhibits.

I assumed I would be concealed carrying. I wasn't going to bring a spare pistol as I didn't want to leave anything like that in my truck or room. A backpack would work if I decide to do that.
I didn't think about all the stickers, brochures, coozies and what not that I might pick up while I'm there. Backpack seems like a good idea to carry the freebies.

Is concealed carry allowed at the Show?

I've seen others post that they open carried at other events in the convention center. I'm hoping the same is true for the NRA convention. If we can't open carry there, we got problems. A bunch of us OC'ing at the NRA convention would do more for our cause than any of OCT shenanigans.

The ar pistol has a 10.3" barrel, folding buffer tube w/ a Shockwave brace. It is legally a pistol.

I'm not worried about an active shooter at the convention, it should be the safest place on earth for that weekend. There's a couple of reasons why I would want to carry my backpack. 1. Because I can. 2. Don't want to leave it in the car for a Hillary supporter to use a five finger discount. 3. With all the negative false accusations toward the NRA lately, no telling what the parking lot and outside the building is going to be like. It would be a more enjoyable time not toting it around but I have carried it in the GRB in Houston for a tool show with a change of clothes for the night and a backup pistol in addition to my normal payload not to mention plenty of excursions with the kids. But I've never had to have the pack searched or screened.

That better be a clear backpack
I read (I think on the NRA site) that bags were allowed but subject to search. I'll have a backpack with me.

ETA:

from the faq: Are backpacks allowed at the Annual Meeting?

Backpacks are allowed on site at the show but have to be kept on your person at all times. Any backpacks left unattended will be reported to security.
I read that and wonder if searched at the entrance, what the unarmed security guard is going to do when he finds my ar pistol in the backpack with one reduced 20 round mag and 2 standard 30 round mags? I usually carry it when in large gatherings. Part of me says my fellow citizens probably have my back, part of me says I shouldn't count on my fellow citizens to have my back.

Re: 147th Annual NRA Meeting in Dallas

Me too. I looked at the website and haven't figured out how to get in the door. I can't remember where my NRA card is as I carry the bare necessities in my wallet. I plan on going with a few buddies who may or may not be NRA members so I'm interested in advise as well.
