A .45 ACP shooting lead bullets that are cast of a fairly hard alloy shouldn't lead the bore if you use good bullet lube (Alox is one of the best.) Wheel weights, Lyman #2 alloy, and Linotype metal should perform satisfactorily at the velocities attainable in the .45 ACP. For other uses keep the velocity under 1000-1200 feet per second and you should be alright. Generally, I use a cast bullet sized .001 over bore size.
