Last night Cruz put the interests of himself ahead of the interests of his party. He is a petty, back-stabbing politician. He did it to John Cornyn and he has now done it to Donald Trump.
It is unclear what effect any of this will have when Ted runs for re-election of his senate seat. He can certainly expect a strong opponent in the Republican Primary and in the general election.
Concerning party loyalty Cruz should have read some of the biographies about Ronald Reagan and Lyndon Johnson and tried to follow their example. Sadly, last night, he did not.

I have never been a fan of Ted Cruz. I do like his stand on the second amendment. However, he generally has a political philosophy of "sinking the ship to get rid of the rats." Additionally, he stabbed fellow Republican John Cornyn in the back when he refused to endorse Cornyn in Cornyn's re-election bid and instead endorsed Cornyn's opponent. I do not know either man personally but I would assume their relations are "strained."
