The other posts have convered the rest well; however, I would like to add that if your only response to a person who displays no weapon, and is not a deadly threat is to reach for your gun, then you need to re-think your reasons for carrying.

A handgun is not some magic tool to scare away people you antagonize or tick off. It is not a force field that allows you to behave as you want with immunity. In this case, your "alligator actions overloaded your jaybird posterior".
