Charles L. Cotton wrote:Three of the requirements to obtain a CHL should be repealed; they are non-payment of 1) taxes/fees; 2) student loans; and 3) child support. The other requirements will never be repealed, but some improvements have been made on what is a disqualifying "conviction." More improvements could still me made, but the political reality is that it's very difficult.

Chas.
I also understand quite a few professional licenses are tied to taxes, student loans and child support now too. If you are delinquent, they suspend your professional license. I don't see how it makes sense for the state to want your money, then remove your ability to earn said money.

Okay, maybe it's too much to ask that Texas be as liberal as Vermont, ................
So you don't want to give your race, object to having to give your employers info, and you think that you have to give copies of credit reports, divorce and medical records?

The law requires that you provide certain information to obtain a CHL. Seamus already provided where in the law that information is required.

Credit is a non-issue.

You cannot be under a protective order or restraining affecting a marital relationship. DPS will check the records at the counties where you have lived/worked to insure you are not. You are not required to provide divorce records. You might need to submit medical records if there is a question about your mental condition.

You must not be declared finally delinquent on your child support, state taxes, or student loans. DPS will inquire with the agencies who administer those to insure you are not.
