Looking at this morning's spammer, it looks like probably all of the new users who were added last year in August are probably spammers. I do really hope that Charles and the team can find a way that we are able to get new members in and keep that trash out.
We all know that this forum has come under many attacks for a long time by opponents of the second amendment who would want to destroy the forum to the point that it gets no traffic and/or officially goes offline.
I don't know exactly what we the members can do to help, but I am sure that if is a matter of needing volunteers or donations to fund a new hosting platform or anything like that that people would gladly contribute. I know that I would make a donation if there were a contribution function and it would help to improve the forum.

Re: I think the forum is dying
Here is a good publication courtesy of oljames from a more recent different discussion thread. It does provide some good information describing the changes in carry laws from the 2021 legislative session. Hope that this is useful for youTexasTornado wrote: ↑Thu Aug 19, 2021 1:58 am
I have not been on in a long time, maybe too long, but with the latest legislative session and September 1st looming, I logged in hoping for some explanations and discussions of the legal changes.
Sadly, I'm not really seeing any. Even the legislation area, which previously held a wealth of information, is still set up for the 2019 legislative session, not 2021s. I can only hope that as September 1st comes and goes, maybe there will be posts on this general topic.

Re: I think the forum is dying
Concealed Handgun License, maybe be obsolete language in the state of Texas, but is still a relevant term in national politics so Iam not surprise that people still ask about it.
Most people know far less about current events in the Texas legislature than they do about the national dialogue on gun rights/control. Even among the 1,000,000+ licensed individuals in the state of Texas, well-informed and knowledgeable people, such as those who frequent this forum are largely in the minority.

Re: I think the forum is dying
I contend that the problem is with the way that new members are approved.
Looking at the Members list there were about 3 new members added this year. There was a huge batch of new members added in August of last year, and no other new members added in 2020. No new members other than our old friend AndyC have even posted a single reply since November 18, 2019.
The people who have been added were added in bulk in August likely several months after they attempted to gain admission to the forum and since they waited months to be admitted to the forum they haven't returned to the forum to contribute.
We historically have new members coming in weekly and posting questions in The Waiting Room and in the General forums while they are waiting for their plastic and preparing to begin their concealed carry journey. We have none of that new membership to drive conversation and so we are left to rehash many of the same old things that all of you long-time members have been talking about on this forum for 15 years.
I did see that Charles added a verification code step to the new members process to filter out spammers etc, indicating that the admins would be a bottleneck in approving new members to the forum. Perhaps this process is not going so well because our terrific admins can't keep up with the new member requests on a day to day basis, or perhaps there is something which is not working properly in the web-hosting software where new member requests are not being processed right.

Re: I think the forum is dying
There really does appear to be something continuing to be wrong with the site. If you click on "members" at the bottom of the desktop browser page, and then sort membership by most recent join date. You'll see that only 4 new members have been added in 2021 (one being AndyC1911), and that other than several dozen added during a couple of days last August, there hasn't been a steady stream of new membership since November of 2019.
I believe that the web hosting platform may have a problem with new member verification, as this would correspond to a problem I faced where I was locked out from being able to access the site for a very long time and the reset password and contact and admin functions weren't working in any way so that I couldn't fix my ability to log on. Eventually I stopped browsing the site altogether because I couldn't log in and comment. Finally one day earlier this year I tried again and was able to to gain access.

Re: I think the forum is dying
I wonder if pop-rivets would work in a sheet plastic console. I would think that as long as the pilot holes were drilled to the proper diameter that it would hold better than screws, but the question would be whether it would crack the plastic causing the rivet installation to fail.tomneal wrote: ↑Wed Aug 11, 2021 8:13 am Alien Gear Cloak Dock
Is it Stand Alone?
I screwed it into my center console. Found a paddle holster in my "tub of holsters". Checked the fit on the gun. Put the holster in the pickup.
Alien Gear has paddle holsters that may fit the Cloak Dock better.
I was unsure how it would hold up with a heavy pistol. It's just 4 screws into plastic. I decided that I didn't want to disassemble the console to allow through bolts
I've been driving with it for less than 2 months. No issues.
I've had a vehicle gun for a long time. This is the first time I've mounted a holster.
I find it comforting without being uncomfortable.
But hey, if the screws are working fine for you then it seems like a solution in search of a problem.
